Consider me another satisfied customer of this method. Looks really nice.

Do you guys put the shrink wrap all the way over the top of the shaft?

Also, do you put grip tape over or under the wrap?

I cut it to go about an inch or so under the grip, then put some packing tape over the seam and grip tape over that. Since I was putting a SuperStroke on, which tend to go on tight, I was a little concerned the process would cause it to move. There was no issue with the way I did it.

I did the opposite as I didnt want to go through removing a grip already on. I just pulled the head and installed the shrink from that end

if it gets scuffed up acetone "erases" the marks and take all the shine out of the material. Its a new level of matte black dull.

*soak a section of a white t-shirt and quickly rub the shaft vertically (insert joke)for an even finish.

Has anyone had trouble when the shaft gets a bit thinner, and the tubing doesnt fully shrink onto the shaft.

Just keep adding heat

I turned the broiler on in my over and put that section of the shaft under it for a few seconds, did the trick

I have slammed through this thread, reading up on how to do this.

Looks like most people are leaving about .5 inch extra at the bottom, then cutting the extra after heating it up, correct?

Also, most arent going to the butt end, right? Just to the grip, plus about an inch, correct?

I like golf. A lot.

This works great. I will reiterate, don't use a hairdryer, they are not strong enough.

I love the standard grip on your putter. I had a pretty great conversation with a buddy of mine who is one of the best club fitters in WNY and that was an interesting point. He said that was a popular thing to do and I have wanted to try in ever since. What are your thoughts on it?

Decided to try this the other day. Absolutely looks factory, love it.

Shown is my Futura and my 32" (50˚) chipping club that is deadly around greens. I didn't want a bunch of head weight so I figured this could give it a "little" bit of weight across the entire shaft.

Which got me thinking... As some of you know, I play my irons very short. 36.25" 5 iron short and 1/4" increments from there. My irons are very light because of this and when I "head-weight" the irons to get back to a D1-ish, the heads are too heavy. So much so that even with stiff shafts, my head comes through the ball open and I hit a fade. Remove lead tape and I hit straight again. Just too much of the weight at the bottom of the club. Using heat-shrink on all of my irons may be a great way to get just a little more weight back into the clubs without the drastic head-weight. Not to mention, they would look pretty bad-a** with some black Maltby's I am thinking about buying.

Anyone care to share their opinions on this idea?

Mr. Wolfe

One question...does the tubing shrink only in diameter or in length as well? Meaning, if I needed to cover 25" of shaft, would I need a 25" long piece of tubing or does it shrink substantially in length as well?

Thanks!

I just put it on two of my putters and it does not shrink length substantially at all. On the first one I had to take a razor blade to cut it and reheat. I would maybe go a couple mm extra but not a lot.

It only hurts once, except golf it hurts a lifetime

Has anybody tried this on their irons? I think it's time.

I have used the heat shrink tube on a bunch of my putters.

I once weighed a 34" long piece. It weighed 17 grams / half a gram per inch.

If your iron shafts are too light or your iron swing can handle the extra

static weight....It might be a viable option.....but if your goal is purely

cosmetic, it could have adverse consequences on your swing mechanics.

Looks like I have a fun project to try. I’d like to do a blacked out putter and this should help.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Well I did it....I ordered 2 King Black wedges with recoil 95 and 110 gram

shafts. Upon arrival I found them to be a bit light. I have been playing my

wedges with 110 and 125 gram shafts forever. So I used the heat shrink tube

to bump the shaft weights up 15 grams each. And as an added bonus, cosmetically

they are now full stealth. Black, on Black , on black
