We don't conform. Do you care?

Yea, it bothers me to the point that I carry a measuring gauge and routinely ask to see both their 7i and 56° wedge.

The rules are meant to be obeyed or why have them?

Anyways, most of the Ams who claim that they benefit are the same ones who claim that they can tell the difference between an identical cast and forged irons, lol. Luke & Stacy can't, but they can, LMAO ;)

Yea Babyyyyyy :)

Anyways, I'm kiddin-

I just wanted to be contrarian :)

I could care less-

And I don't even know if there is such a thing as a measurement gauge, lol, it just sounded cool ;)

Have a nice evening!!

My Best,
Richard

Quigley, well played sir, well played. Why not have her call you Mr Bond?

J Blade, no they are not conforming. My tour models were extremely short. Had to hit a 5 iron from 150! Yours? PS. You can get Eye 2+ pretty reasonable on ebay. That's how I got my Zings

I figured that.. Thanks. Yes, my 5 goes about 150, but I always assumed that was me and not the club :)

I've been looking and saving pennies. I may go for I3's or newer, if I can. I found a cheap set of ISIs the other day for $50.00 (3-PW). I thought they could be a good reclamation project, but they were just too rough. It looked the like the previous owner had been hitting them off gravel. The soles were all chewed up. If it was just re-lettering, I would have snagged them.

Yes the USGA has gauges. But they also have a list of nonconforming clubs as well.

I have a grooving tool that will not let you cut beyond the width or depth approved by the USGA. It could actually be used to check. If it doesn't bottom out, you're illegal.

Yikes. I gave $200 for my Zing 2s, 3-PW and Zing G2 putter, and Daytrek bag along with a couple of junk clubs I donated. You can find Stuff in the ball park you want to be in. Also try Craigslilst in your area, save the shipping.

As far as the distance, it's not you. Even with the old lofts 7 iron is my 150 stick with real Ping club.

Also don't get freaked out by stiff JZ shaft. It plays like rifle x 5.5 (reg/firm). Stay away from KT shaft. Bad to break in hozel

If you do buy Ping stuff without ferrule and want to reshaft, take them to somebody. Tricky getting them heads off. Ping used High strength epoxy in them! Check club making forum for threads about it.

Download or look up color charts so you know what the dots are as far as lie angle and shaft flex

Doesn't bother me either. I play with a lot of guys who don't even count every shot they make...... like if the top their driver 3 feet in front of them or hit it OOB they'll get the ball and take a mulligan or use the foot wedge when the ball is deep in the s***....... doesn't bother me. I just don't take notice of their 'score'! :D

Don't care either!

Had Zings (KT-M) for 12+ years; put up with ribbing from my friends about how ugly they looked. Replaced them w/ Cleveland HiBores (graphite), which was a BIG mistake (erratic chipping, would often fly greens). Am happy with my G10s (AWT), although I wish I'd kept the Zings..
[/quote]

I think the KT-M is an improvement over the original KT but don't quote me on that. Thought I read it somewhere.

the groove change is 10 years away, by then it won't matter, if you have wedges that old, they won't have grooves left; the interesting thing to tease about is belly putters...they have already nearly disappeared from my home course and that rule change is still down the road a couple years; there really seems to be a "shame" element on the belly putter crowd; personally I don't care about the grooves or about the putters, I have yet to see a belly putter user that I wouldn't give strokes to on the green; I once played a money match with a guy who was belly, left hand low (way low down the shaft) and after a few holes if he got within 5 feet of the cup I would rush in to whisk the ball away and say "that's good" because not only would he never make that one but it was too painful to watch him suffer over 1 footer comebackers that he was unlikely to make either (in my mind, the match was well in hand after 2 holes, so why be mean about it)

I still play illegal grooves
Don't know if my putting stroke is considered "anchored"

Been playing this way for 20 yrs, then all of a sudden some self serving bureaucratic chief, decides NOPE illegal...

Could care less

Anchoring was always illegal, but why enforce it now? Play what you can play. USGA aint paying for your round. It's about having a good time playing a game you love with some good friends!

Couldn't none of the G, I or K irons turn you from you Eye2+s? I kinda like the K15 myself.

OK so those of us that bag really old irons don't conform to the changes in the groove rule. Does that bother anyone as a playing partner? I know USGA events matter, but do you guys care at your local club? Do you see the old grooves as an advantage with todays harder ball?

Just wondering. Guys I game with are 1-2 clubs longer than me so it kinda evens out. Sure I can stop an 8 iron but their hitting 9. Sure hope they can stop it Geez!

I'm not planning on joining the tour any time soon, so I don't care about conforming clubs or how many clubs are in mine or anyone else's bag.

One guy in the group I played with last weekend had 3 putters and 2 drivers. He probably had about 20 clubs in his bag. It was pretty comical actually and didn't help his game one bit.

Unless you're in a serious tournament or playing for money, I don't see why anyone would care. How does it affect them really?

The game has always honored the same set of Rules for all players, regardless of skill level. amateur or professional player. I respect that aspect of the game and want it to remain the same, so I refuse to play non-conforming groove irons or wedges.

It took me over a month to realize my new irons and wedges are conforming, so... no. We have a senior in our weekly golf league that plays an Ignite DFI thats supposedly .890 COR, everyone knows, nobody cares.

Shot my lowest round twice with isi players though. Eye 2+ SW is the perfect grind to me.

I actually have a grooving tool that will cut beyond the USGA limits. It works great on new wedges because it allows you to combine the newer technology on wedge faces to create more spin with the old style non-conforming grooves. It really makes the grooves deep, squared out, and kinda sharp too.

I see two things. One, Pros play custom made and FREE clubs their OEMs want them to play. Great. Two, The USGA has, in my opinion, been fair about 'grandfathering' clubs as they change the rules. Now for us regular/ordinary folks who DO NOT play at the highest levels, for a living and/or in tournaments etc. there is another factor. A set of irons, a wedge, a driver, almost any club today, constitutes a large monetary investment. This expense is heightened if you get fitted, customize the club. I've never heard anyone say I'm going to go to the store/pro of choice and buy me some illegal clubs so I can beat the socks off my buddies.
We buy, in good faith, at the time clubs are introduced. What happens after that is of NO consequence to me. I will not be playing in the US Open, nor will I be playing where those rules are strictly in play. I play my old Eye2s sometimes. My friends could care less. They do too. Some still play them all the time.
One pal announced he WILL NOT give up the long putter. No one in the group said a word.
Golf is hard enough. It's a great game. The rewards are many- at many levels.
Don't get wrapped around the axle.

Mine conform until 2024, would not care if they did not conform in 2025.

USGA's worst rule--we have an issue on tour so we make a rule that effects all amateur equipment. 99.90% of golfers have to buy CC clubs, due to a situation that effects .01% of all golfers.

If they can make this idiotic rule, it should be easy to make a tour ball that plays shorter--when was the last time a pro had to hit a long iron on a par 4--not from the tee. Long iron tee then wedge from fairway on par 4s are joke.

Curious, has anyone ever gotten into an argument over a money game regarding conforming irons?

My J36 PCs don't conform, I've been using them since they came out. I wonder how I would react if I won a money game and someone decided not to pay up because they are not conforming.
