I really enjoyed the RTJ Course at Palmetto Dunes a month or so ago.
What kind of shape was it in?I've played the Fazio course before but never got to play the RTJ. Looking for a different course to play.

Thanks,Gary
I played the RTJ twice and Arthur Hills once. The conditions were great. I think the value for the course was pretty solid.

If you can swing it, check out Melrose and Bloody Point on Daufuskie Island. Takes a little planning and time, but they will not be crowded, and are great golf courses. Palmetto Hall on the Island is also excellent.

Friend of mine is the Superintendent at Bloody Point. He was at Palmetto Dunes Arthur Hills from 1999 to about 2 years ago i think. Bloody Point just did a reno with Davis Love and I'm eager to get back down there.

RTJ, Old South, HH National and the courses on Daufuskie are my favorites. Palmetto Hall has two nice tracks as well. Fazio in PD just doesn't excite me and the Hills course was in pretty bad shape when I was down in May. Heading back in July. It's hotter than he!! this time of the year.

Courses I have not played after owning a place down there for 20 years are Indigo Run and the Ocean course at Sea Pines. Wanted to try Heron Point but it's undergoing a renovation (again).

Daufuskie with Melrose and Bloody Point is just an awesome day trip. Ferrry ride over, play one or both courses (Melrose is far better than Bloody Point, but they are both great courses). Ferry ride back. Can't beat it.
I'm continuing to hear excellent things about those courses, which is awesome. I'll be there (Hilton Head) in Oct for 2 weeks. I plan on making at least one trip to Dafuskie this year. I just have a hard time figuring out the ferry rides and how to get to the course(s). Not that informative for a day tripper (vs being a guest on the island itself). Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated. :)

My favorites are: HH National, Ocean Course at Palmetto Dunes, and make the trip over to The Legends over at (Parris Island Marines Base - but open to the public). :)

We were on Daufuskie before Bloody Point was restored. The course was overgrown, but it looked like a beautiful piece of property. Melrose looked incredible. We did not play, we just rented a golf cart and explored the Island. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Even if you don't play over there, it is worth going over to take a look around.

I like Hampton Hall a lot and was going to suggest HH National as the third he should look into.

I've been down 3-4 times a year for about 8 years now. RTJ @ Palmetto Dunes is my favorite course on the island not named Harbortown. The other two Palmetto Dunes courses are very good but not RTJ quality- especially the stretch from holes 7-15, which is quite possibly my fav stretch of consecutive holes I've played. Old South is a very good track, but use golf now or the like for discounts. Golden Bear at Indigo Run can usually be had at a decent price as well. HHN and Eagles Pointe are best two off island that are open to public. I have yet to make it on Colleton River but hear its a great track.

Thanks every one for your advice.I wanted to play RTJ course but the price was a little to high for me.I did play Old South.I love playing there when ever get a chance. It was in excellent condition. Also played Hilton Head National.Haven't played there in a few years. It's a really nice lay out and although the fairways were in good shape the greens were top dressed the day before and were horrible.

The one thing I hate about playing courses down there is you can't take your cart to the parking lot to unload cart. Then you've got some one all over your bag trying to clean your clubs without asking. It's very annoying.

Thanks again,Gary :golfer:

Old south is in GREAT shape...Great fun course...some tight challenging holes and staff was very pleasant!

Hampton hall is a 10/10 course right now, talking to the staff they made it clear that they're trying to go 100% private but still allow outside play. The course is in impeccable shape, I have never putted in such perfect greens. Course isn't overplayed so it's in pristine shape from tee to green. I truly recommend playing there if you can get in.
