Nike Vapor Iron Series

I've had mine for 2 months now and it's starting to show some nicks and scratches. I shed a tear after my first nick (2nd round) but now I think they look pretty cool with some wear. I actually played Tigers new course in Cabo and there was a lot of sand/desert surroundings so my VPC took a little beating. With that said, I'm loving the irons.

The PVD is also holding up really well except for the 7 iron, which appears to be from the early production since the black is starting to wear off.

Thanks for the feedback on the PVD. That was one concern a lot of people had when the Vapors were announced. Hit 'em well fellas!

Any pictures on how the black PVD finish is holding up with normal usage? Sorry Lesmond, but pictures from you will not count. I have seen how well you clean your shoes after every round so I already know yours will still look absolutely perfect! :)
No worries, I proudly use headcovers on all irons. I spent all that money on those clubs. I got to keep them clean as possible during and after the round.
:good::)

I agree that you need to take excellent care of your equipment. 14-way fur-lined full length dividers are nice too!
Yup. I use a Nike Hybrid Performance 14-way bag now. Used to have Titleist staff stand bag, but wasn't 14-way, so I sold out.

So far I haven't noticed any wear issues on mine. I've had two rounds with one being on a course with some of the worst cart paths ever, three range sessions, plus a good bit of time in my simulator and having moved them in and out of the truck a lot. Playing again today so we'll see after that.

Jealous of all that are getting to play in warm weather with their new vapor irons. Happy new year to all, can't wait for the spring to see what these sets have to offer!

Anybody actually try to remove the pvd by media blasting, or am I the pioneer when my set arrives?
You may be the first to do it (you HAVE to post pictures), but you won't be the first to think about it.

You are talking about removing the black plastic badges (plural; because it looks like there are two of them, right?) on the backs? Have I got that right? What's the plan? Heat them with a heat gun, soften the glue, and pry them loose with a screwdriver or something? Do the badges serve any non-cosmetic function? Do you really need to media blast them if you are replacing them with lead tape to make up any lost swingweight?

I gotta say; the set of clubs pictured in your avatar looks like a really great, serviceable set of golf clubs for my tastes.
Are you talking about the black in the back?? That is not an insert. It's a black PVD finish right in the club. Someone in here posted pics where they used a Dremel to remove it...although, I think they had an early set, that didn't have all the layers of PVD that must sets now have.

Had to change it up a bit. I was so upset that I have the least distance of anyone with my 7 iron that I had to make myself feel better. Ha. Just kidding.

I will be hitting the golf dome Saturday so I'll post some more numbers, see if I can get ridiculed some more.

I've gotten 3 rounds with them, and still looking good. Started using iron headcovers to keep away from knicks and scratches. Most PVD wear looks to be on the 4i - got some weird scratch wear, not sure from what, maybe chatter, which is why I'm covering.

Has anyone noticed lower spin numbers with their pro combos? I was hitting a 6 iron with 3800 total spin. Granted I was hitting inside on foresight, and the face was completely taped up. Stock DG Pro S300. Swing speed was 91 carry was 214. With my MP 64 Modus 130 stiff my carry is 200 with 5000 spin

Hey guys, just thought I would pop my head in and give some credit where credit is due! My brother-in-law got a set of Vapor Speeds for Christmas. He got the stock Dynalite 105 shafts in stiff. I had a chance to play these irons for 6 holes yesterday. I am a 3.8 handicap and hit my irons pretty decent for a hack. I am actually gaming Ping G15's right now and just ordered a set of 714 AP2 with Nippon Modus 3 120's in tx. Just a little history of current clubs and what I am use to.

The Nike Vapor Speeds are great irons. High ball flight, very straight and very forgiving. Due to the Nike's being a little less bulky, I experienced better turf interaction than with my G15's. They feel a touch softer off the face than my Pings, so pretty soft for cast club. I was hitting them dead straight and could make an argument they migh be easier to hit than Ping G series. Even though they have less offset, these irons are really straight to a slight draw bias from what I could tell.

As far as distance goes, they seemed to be the same distance as I hit my Ping's. However, the 4 and 5 iron I hit was a little bit longer then what I am use to. Anywhere from 5 to 10 yards longer it looked like while on the range.

Only draw back is the grips. The grips were crazy tacky after taking off the plastic on Christmas. After my brother in law handled the clubs for a few rounds the tackiness wore off and has become very slick. A regrip for him is going to happen this weekend.

These are very good clubs and really fits anyone from a 2 to 25 handicap. These clubs look great in the bag and at address too!!!!

Really has me wishing I gave the Pro Combos a chance but I do not think there is a Nike fitting cart anywhere around here......

Finally got to play a couple rounds with the Vapor PC's this week after staring at them while rehabbing from knee meniscopy on 12/12. I'm not 100% yet so just a few early observations about the irons.

Honestly, I thought the clubs were butt-ugly when I first saw them; but I hit them and, well, they were just easy to play. Now I sort of like the look, although I may change the color of the swoosh eventually. I swapped out a set of Mizuno JPX 850 Forged I bought on Nov 1st for them.

I've got the 4-aw setup with DG Pro R300. I like the way the clubs setup and frame the ball at address. The top line is very similar to my other irons (J38's & CMB's). Checked w/ Nike & was told it measures .22". Doesn't appear too thick at all. Looking down at the club, I feel confident trying any shot I need to make.

I've never been a fan of TT DG shafts because I always seem to struggle with them, but the DG Pro seems like a good fit for me so far. I was swinging about 3/4 of normal & the shafts seemed to load fine, ball launched high, and maintained a mid-high trajectory. Short irons launched just a bit higher than my project x flighted, but I guess that's what they're designed to do. Ball dropped softly onto the greens (when I hit them).

I know feel is subjective, but for me the Vapor/DG Pro setup is as soft as any iron I've demoed. Felt softer than the Mizuno 850 forged I originally had. I can't think of any current GI iron model that felt softer.

The 4 iron was easy to hit. Very forgiving. It worked off the tee, fwy or from a packed sand fwy bunker. I saw a bit of the back of the club at address, but it wasn't distracting. Mid and short irons were almost point and shoot easy. I did miss the 7 & 8 irons a few times out on the toe, the shots for the most part went straight landing about 6 - 10 yds short each time. I'll be taking them to Golfsmith to have lie angles checked & adjusted if necessary. I really like the 51* aw; around the green and out to about 90 yds.

It's a little early to give a comparison on distance.

Overall, I'm happy & believe Nike's got a winner with the Vapor line.

Hit em well.

My Speed 4 iron with C-Taper just came in from the shop!

Honestly, it looks like a driving iron. I was very surprised/impressed to see how small the head is from topline to the sole. I was worried it would be very oversized compared to the rest of my set.

At 21 degrees, one can debate it is a driving iron. :)

Thinking about doing the same for myself so let me know how it works out.

Thanks!

Got a chance to see play today, coming home from the Sugar Bowl. I played in Miss, Shell Landing. I hit my VPC irons so good, they are absolutely amazing, like I said in an earlier post I have struggled with my irons the last few years, thinking it was mainly my swing. I shot 74 from the back tees, and I believe the irons were the main reason.

They are basically point and shoot for me, and flighting them is so easy. I am so glad I got fit and bought these irons, worth every penny.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
