Nike Vapor Iron Series

I was at my local shop yesterday and the Nike rep stopped in.

 

I ordered this through him while he was there!

I got to hit my VPC with the modus 130. Little about me. 0.6 handicap. Strengths are off the tee and my ball striking. Last year I played the Apex Pro with modus 130 stiff. The best ball striking year I've had. I love the feel of the modus. So smooth. My drver swing speed is 115. 6 iron is 90 or so when I'm swinging well.

These are just great looking at address. With the 6 iron I was carrying 208 with 5200 spin. Little draw. Height was 37. For me, I have the perfect combo. I need to keep hitting them to get them dialed in though

Have the Tour 3 120 TX in my Apex/Apex Pro and I agree...these shafts work wonderful in just about everything. My peak height with all irons is in the 32-34 range...incredible seeing every iron take off at different launch angles but end up the same height.

I stopped by my pro shop today to order a set of Vapor Pro Combos, but got stuck on the shaft options. Right now, I'm S55's with CFS stiff. I will have to order sight, or hit, unseen mainly due to accessibility and timing. I don't want PXi, as I've tried them before in other clubs and didn't care for them.

I hit my S55 7-iron around 150-155 yards. Driver SS round 100 mph, more if I go at it.

I am most concerned with dispersion and feel, but aren't we all!

I am considering either:

Modus 3 120 stiff (I had some Modus 3 130 stiffs that I liked the feel of, but they were just too heavy and stiff for me.)
Nippon 950GH (I like the feel of these shafts, but I fear they might be too light for me.)
KBS Tour Stiff (I've had these in TMAG, Mizuno, and others over the years. Smooth shaft with mid weight. Launches a bit high though.)
KBS Tour V Stiff (I've never hit these, but I like the idea of the lighter weight and lower flight/spin with some of the smoothness of the KBS Tour S model.)
Dynamic Gold S400 Tour Issues (I have these in all my wedges and love them, but they might just be too much shaft for all my irons.)

I've got back problems and considered the Steelfibers (which I have now in a set of J40 CB's) or the UST Recoils, but I'd like to stick to a metal shaft for these if I can. Not totally opposed to the idea of the i95 stiff or the Recoil 95 or 110's though, but the cost is probably WAY up there. OEM's price these shafts into outer space it seems.

Thoughts/comments/suggestions...?

[/quote]I would suggest trying the stock DG Pro. I came over from Ping I20's with CFS X and am liking the DG. No reason to spend the extra coin sight unseen.

Agree with this ^. I have used KBS tour, PXI, etc and to me the DGS Pro feel great, nice weight, really great flight, and the progressive flight is great throughout the set.

I had the Nippon shafts in my last set, way too light for me.

I had CFS in my i20's before switching to Recoils due to tendonitis in my elbow. Personally, I find the KBS Tour Stiff to be the most similar in feel and launch characteristics to the CFS. So if you like the feel and characteristics of the CFS, I don't think you can go wrong with KBS.
Also, prior to re-shafting my Vapor Pro Combos, I played a few rounds with the Stock DG Pro shaft. I thought the shaft was great and would have kept it were it not for my elbow issues.

I just played another round with vapor pro. These felt much better and softer than my old tw vr irons. I think I'm getting more distance out of them too. I was able to hit 165 with 7 iron with 0 rolls. 145 with 9, and 175 with 6 irons. (155 with 7 on tw vr) Ground was still wet and muddy, so I had 0 rolls on all my shots.

I went with the stock DG Pro S300. I figured it was my best bet. The folks here in this thread were instrumental in helping me decide. Each of the other shafts had plusses and minuses to me, but the DG Pro is the shaft that Nike chose for the club, so it must have some basis in performance. I like the idea of the progressive technology too, as sometimes I launch my long irons a bit on the low side. I ordered them today, but I have not head back about when they will be in.

Also, I'm getting the volt Hoofer for sure. That sucker is sharp! I have a black Ping carry bag now and it seems like every other person I play with has a straight black bag.
