Played yesterday and it wasn't too bad until it started raining. Then it was tough to stay warm. Took down 2nd place in our "Fed Ex Cup" style tourney. It was a year of 2nds for me. 2nd in league, club championship, fall member/member and this past tourney.

Congrats on retaining the cup G-Bone! Intrigued about the Epons...

Yes sir! It was almost 303's... But 503's fit my game unlike any iron I've ever hit.

Soooo.....

This year, for various reasons, it was time to replace my favorite irons of all times, Nike VRS Forged.

Eneter Mizuno 850 Forged... great clubs, love the look and feel. As the season progressed, 850F and I became friends... However, we never fell in love. My game has always revolved around me hitting fairways, when I do, I score well. This year was quite a different story. G30 LS has me hitting more fairways than ever, yet 850F has me missing more greens than ever... Bad combo.

Hence, the search for "the irons" continued:
2014 Apex - Nice, but nothing special
RSi 2 - Good, but not great
Plus many others that did not thrill me.

2016 Models hit the scene:
2016 Apex - Nice, but nothing special
PS - Great, I think these are "the ones!"

Then it happened... my boy (2015 Michigan Amateur Winner, 2014 GAM Championship Winner) walks by and says, "give the Epons a shot, I'm switching to them." So when "this guy" says, "check'em out," you know I'm going to check them out!

Out comes the Epon 303 6 iron with KBS Tour V in it.... Outstanding! Without exception the most amazing feeling iron I have EVER struck, period. Good shots were good, and bad shots were bad... Just like my 850F. So nothing new for me.

Next, out comes the Epon 503 6 iron with PX 5.5 in it........ MAGIC WAND! Good shots were GREAT, and bad shots were GOOD... Just like my beloved VRS Forged... Home sweet home!! We then discuss that VRS Forged was rumored to be the last iron Endo made for Nike (game improvement) and that VRS Forged was basically a 503 with wider sole and thicker top line.... That all makes a lot of sense now. It's also worth noting, this combo gave me my tightest grouping on Trackman I've ever recorded... Me likes.

The shocker was the shaft. I'm coming off three seasons of Steelfiber i95, yet the PX 5.5 out performed everything else we tried. It took me a while to rap my head around the extra 20 grams of weight, but as Rasheed Wallace used to say, "ball don't lie," and neither does Trackman. The big caveat though, is my swing speed has gone up from 82 mph with a 6 iron to 87 mph... So steel and 20 grams makes a lot of sense. In years past I played my best golf with i5 and i10 with PX 5.5... So like I said earlier... Home sweet home!

There you go, my friends, the story of Epon 503 with PX 5.5, and how they made it on my team. (Sorry it's a bit long winded)

In March when I was there testing LST a few times I saw a bunch of stuff, had someone look up epon prices since they are a dealer now and remembered why I buy second hand. It was something crazy like $400 for the wedge I was looking at.

Did one at scratch, didn't try many things because of how the stroke looked. If I was in your shoes where your not even 100% sure on head shape it's worth it for sure.

I would say the time I spent on Sam Lab has taken more actual strokes off my game than any other club fitting I have done.

Well worth it!

I think I'm tapping out for the year. Had a buddies trip up north this past weekend, and just felt like the swing was being held together with duct tape and a frayed bungee cord. Would go out shooting 1 over on the front, and 10 on the back. Rinse and repeat.

Made some good progress this year on the handicap, had the ace, and figured out how to read greens much better, so I had a good year. Feel like I could have done more if I had the time to practice (I think that's my issue really....only have time to play once a week)

Now I'm just toast mentally, and by the time I am ready to swing again, I bet snow will be here. Play a few extra rounds for me guys.

5 thru PW are def used with Modus 120 S
Suitable as a practice/backup set. Or a 1st set for a newbie.
