Not yet, probably will but I've got a lot of other events and have always played poorly in those in the past. Plus unlike a 1 day, you've potentially got a lot of time tied up. Home course has a qualifier so I should give it a go again.

Length on the DBD? I'm @ 44.5" now but choke down over 1/2" easily. I was just thinking this morning how a 43.5" or even a little less might be fun to try. Actually I haven't missed the DI at all waiting for a g30 tip for it, maybe I'll chop that down and use it as a fairway shaft later if it doesn't work. Pass it around for anyone that wants to try something that short for the hell of it.

Well you may find what I found...

When I catch the DBD on the screws I hit some of the longest drives of my life; and she feels like butter. But when you don't, think TM SuperDeep.

With G30 LS it really doesn't matter how I catch it, I continue to hit some of the best drives of my life; and it feels like, um, trying to drive a garden shovel into concrete... I'm not a fan. But, for me, performance beats feel... At least for now. Ha!

If you think the greens were quick now, you should come back during the summer. They really speed them up, also i always thought that the green on 17 was pretty big. It is great shape for the time of the year.

So got to play with OW in a FSGA one-day event. Neither one of us played any level to write home about. My first round of the year, and the rust showed. Thankfully, I wanted only to get a bit of extra tournament nerve experience, and have a good day hanging out with OW. The second, as expected, was achieved.

OW hates the course we played, I'd need to play it a second time to get a real opinion. There were holes I would have hit 3 wood or hybrid off the tee if I knew.

But had a good day with OW, except for jamming my wrist on an approach shot. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity, try to play with him. He's certainly the same guy in person, if not better.

OK, enough mush. sparty sucks!! :-)

I have a question for any in-the-know golfers about how the handicap system works in tournament play.
Scenerio #1
10 hc player plays from the white tees (6000 yards)
2 hc player plays from the blue tees (6500 yards)

Scenerio #2
10 hc player plays from the Blue tees (6500 yards)
2 hc player plays from the white tees (6000 yards)

Question is: In both cases can fair play be had regardless of a golfer's handicap, and the tee they play from? Does it matter what tee any golfer plays from if the golfer's hc and course hc are taken into calculation and done properly?

A USGA index adjusted for the course slope and rating (if a different set of tees are being played) will make the match fair. I see a great deal of misunderstanding on using handicaps and when I set up tournaments and games. I often hear comments like I am an 18 and your a 3, so I get 15 strokes even though we are playing two sets of tees.

You need to adjust an index to a course handicap using the slope of the tee. If players are playing a different tee, then calculate each players handicap.

Then you need to factor in rating. If there is a difference in rating, then that should be factored in the match.

So I player A has a course handicap of 12 and is playing a rating of 70.5 and player B has a course handicap of 2 and is playing a rating of 73.5, then the actual handicap difference is only 7, not 10.

The players don't have a specific handicap they have an index. Each set of tees have a rating. Use the players index and the rating for the tees they will play and work off of that. Now due to the nature of the handicap system the 2 index should have the advantage in the long run (especially from the shorter tees) but anything can happen on a given day.

A course handicap is based on the slope. Use this to create a course handicap.

http://www.usga.org/course-handicap-calculator.html

Higher handicaps have more adjustment for slope than lower.

Here is a situation, based on the rating of Indianwood GC, for 12hc vs 2hc, according to the calculator. I think they are right, and the course rating is used for Option #2.

Gold Tees
6740yards, slope = 140, rating = 73.6
2 hc , course hc = 2
12 hc , course hc = 15

White Tees
5544 yards, slope = 123, rating = 68.8
2 hc, course hc = 2
12 hc, course hc = 13

Option #1
So if both golfers are playing the same tees, the 12 hc golfer would get 13 strokes from the Golds, or 11 from the whites.

Optionn #2
If the 2 hc golfer is playing the Golds and the 12 hc is playing the whites, the 12 hc would get only 6 strokes.
