Here's a little story that will make you hate the airlines....

So my wife picks me up from the airport on Monday as I am returning from her cousin's bachelor party weekend in Vegas, and after I throw my stuff in the car she tells me I reek like booze. I respond that I haven't drank all day and had a shower and everything. Anyway, we get home and I bring my golf travel bag in the house and I can now smell the booze too.

I had 3/4 of a bottle of Woodford Reserve in my golf bag and the airlines apparently roughed it up enough that the top came off and the contents spilled all throughout my bag. None of my more expensive stuff like my shoes and my range finder were damaged, but the bag is pretty much trashed. I'd only had it for one season, so that made it suck even more.

I might be able to spray the old one down with the hose and let it air out to the point it's useable, but I can't even try that until it warms up.

Needless to say I have a brand new golf bag now.
If I'd seen this yesterday, I might have rethought the six beers I brought down to Austin for my brother-in-law. I put each one in a gallon plastic bag (knowing if one broke, I would probably still be hosed) and wrapped them up really well in some clothes, and in a couple shoes. Fortunately, they all made it intact, or I'd have a bag that smells like IPA.
usually beers or screw-on liquor bottles are safe. Those press-fit cork tops never fit very tight. I guess that's what I get for being cheap, but it was almost a full bottle and I just couldn't resist bringing it back. I guess I should carry some duct tape in my golf bag in the future.

I have a negative angle of attack so I spon it more. 2700 - 2800 is usual for me.

Anything under or at 2800 rpm for ball spin is decent but this number will go down if you start hitting up on it. Compare ball spin, AoA and face angle and see if there's a noticeable pattern once you get a sizable sample pool of data (5 swings should be good). I'm assuming the numbers you posted was your best swing. So at that SS, your swing is highly efficient having a 1.46 smash factor. You can get a little more out your swing at that SS. At your maximum efficiency output (1.5 smash) you'll hit it longer and reduce your ball spin by increasing your AoA. Trackman is pretty cool to work with because the feedback is so much more augmented and different from that you would get out of a swing video.

Here's my best swing from the other night. It sometimes helps you better understand the relationship and interplay between your numbers when you have another's to compare yours to.

Add me to the G30 mob guys...

For the first time in 6 years I have been fit into a "stock shaft"... Great on the wallet. Went with:
G30 LST 9*
Digitally lofted to 9
Tour 80x tipped 1"
45" D4

I hit it on the range for a small bucket first and it looked good and went STRAIGHT as could be. Then jumped on Trackman for 6 balls to make sure the numbers were good using real balls before I pulled the trigger. I was getting 12-13 launch, 2100 spin and 186-190 ball speeds. I was generating the best smash factor I have ever had on trackman for the few balls that I hit. My last ball I hit was contacted low on the face which usually balloons like crazy on me with most driver setups... It still launched at 10* and 2600 spin with a 1.45 smash. I feel relieved to have gotten it ordered and to get the SLDR low hooky pulls gone.

I understand that I can get better numbers with hitting up on the ball. I used to have a -4 AoA with a drive and I have gotten it down to -1, so it is getting better.

The data I posted was average. My spin is a little higher than I want, but it was all under 3K which is most important for me.

Last year I got focused on chasing a number and it got me in a place where I was not comfortable with the equipment I had and my swing, so I was lacking confidence. Now I am going back to equipment I have confidence in and not worrying about getting a perfect smash factor and spin.

Today's beer recommendation is 51K IPA from Blackrocks brewery in Marquette. It's a 7%, easy to drink IPA that's not super hoppy so you can actually drink when it gets hot outside. I'm pretty sure it only comes in cans, so it's perfect for the golf course. So far I've only seen it on the west side of the state.

Cheers!

This same thought crossed my mind as well. I mean it really does feel at least 40 out in the sun and there virtually being no wind. Just a little too cold for me still.

Changed my mind and walked nine. It wasn't too bad. Bad thing about cold is trying to figure out distances. It was a full two clubs longer than summer today.

It was to cold for me to golf today but not cold enough for me to put my dock in even though my lake still is 1/2 covered in ice. My kids wanted to work on their short game :) I tried to talk them into getting a chipper as well :)

Hit the Nike Vapor Flex today against the DBD....was really curious to see how it would do based on Pure's review. I would say, it felt noticeably better, but the forgiveness of the DBD was better. Comparing my best drives, I'd also say the DBD was better.

Had to do the comparison, especially since he had written off the DBD early on in his testing. Just goes to show different strokes for different folks...

Got my second 18 in today in southern Indiana. I watched my alumni win the Division II national championship yesterday (go mocs!).

I was three holes away from a good round. I plunked three in the water on one hole (I was aiming 30 yards right after two and still hit it in). I had 7 penalty strokes and still managed a 90. I'm about over these blow up holes out of nowhere.

This is still just pre-season golf so the scores don't really count.

The vapor flex might be the best feeling driver I've ever hit. I can't even describe it, it just felt so solid. Hit both the pro and flex that day and there was a huge difference imo.

You just coming back from FL? How did it go?
Played pretty bad with OW, but we ham and egged during his member guest to take 2nd in the flight. Took the next six days up north of Orlando and got two rounds in. Hit it so much better and was getting off the tee. OW, gave me advice that no matter what I try I will always take it back inside and have a quick transition. I just accepted it and worked on closing the clubhead and swinging down and turning through it. What a difference it made. Made an eagle and quite a few birdies. Was three over after 2 and played the next 13 holes 4 under but couldn't finish because bad weather came in. Was absolutely just killing the driver. When I hit it solid was over 300. Had one roll to 320. Florida has hard fairways unlike here in Michigan though. I'm finally feeling good about the game. Love the XR Pro hybrids too.
