Jessica Korda SI interview

Qqq123xx

Recommended Posts

Just some Jessica quotes from her Sports Illustrated one page article.

One Her Personality

"I'm goofy a lot of times, I didn't know how the tour would handle my personality, but now everyone is used to it."

On Her awkward moment

"Yep, I said a ball was ovulating--not oscillating--on the green at the British. I was exhausted. I'm lucky I didn't say worse. Hashtag blonde."

On pictures

"I hate the photo they took of me for the LPGA Tour. It's just awful. Can I give them one of these." (i.e.: Her two SI pics)

Yeah I know worthless without pics. At the current state of my old computer it is not possible. Printer broken, not enough ram blah blah. Soon to be taken care of. She has a few more interesting quotes so might be worth a look for some of you.

So guess it is okay to call her Goofy.

Love the photo of her on the right. Big fan of Jess.

I followed her for a bit at the US Open at Pinehurst. I saw one goofy moment. While she was waiting on one tee box she came to the ropes to talk to her sister and a few other guys. She suddenly took her water bottle and squirted it all over her sister - hilarity ensued. It was a nice moment in between all the grinding game-faces on display that week.

I have a Jess/Goofy story. I was at the RR Donnelley last year in Phoenix and ended up meeting her host "mom". I started talking to this lady about meeting Jodi Ewart who was also staying with her. I mentioned that I had met Jodi at UNM when she played there and that I knew the UNM ladies coach, Well, the lady tells she practically raised the UNM coach, so the coach got Jodi in touch with this lady and that is how she came to host Jodi and Goofy, . Well, yada yada yada, the lady tells me that her car, which was loaned to the girls was parked right next to the course, but she and her husband had to park way far away. When Goofy finished her round the lady made some teasing remark about not getting an autographed ball because Goofy gave it too some kid near us. I said, "Forget the ball get a parking pass". Goofy shouts out with a big smile as she is walking away, "I"M WORKING ON IT!" We all had a good laugh about it. It was a great interaction with her and she showed what a lighthearted fun personality she has. I am a fan! Oh yeah, the girl has game to. She pounds it out there with a nice little draw!

WRX is serious business.
The nickname steering committee just doesn't haphazardly designate a nickname without due diligence.....all nicknames have been board certified.

If Ted Bishop would have consulted the steering committee...he would have discovered that "Lil Girl" was not board approved. :stop:

This is the year I became smitten with Jessie--speaking strictly as a golf fan of course. For me she has filled the void left by Paula Creamer. She is underrated as a player too--three wins already at age 21.
I believe she is underrated because of her inconsistency. She'll go for long stretches without a top 10 finish. Heck, she has only 5 top 10 finishes in 21 events, and is 16th in CME points. She definitely has the potential, but like Lexi, I would classify her as an underachiever at this point. I certainly hope that changes.

IMO, nicknames have really declined in general and particularly in sporting terms. When I was a kid we had great contributions like The Immaculate Reception and The Mad Stork, etc. Plus I read works by famous old sportswriters with nicknames like Four Horsemen and Galloping Ghost.

Somehow in the '80s everything began to collapse, with simpleton garbage like The Play and The Catch and The Drive. Apparently we're destined to abuse that sloppy technique for decades to come. I heard Paula Creamer's playoff victory from earlier this year described as capped by The Putt.

Unbearable. Consequently I don't participate in the nicknaming here. Hit and miss, IMO. The worst ones are the ones requiring upper cap and lower case lettering. Simply too much. That defeats the purpose. A nickname, like a logo, should be standout and memorable, not huh?

That being said, goofy for Jessica Korda is automatic and perfect. I don't see how it was ever disputed or hesitantly accepted. Every facial expression is wonderfully goofy. Obviously it's in positive application.

I agree that her LPGA picture is awful. Many are awful. Why aren't the players allowed to choose and submit their own? Hard to believe that wasn't the case with Shanshan Feng.
