I've been playing the yellow Z-Star and Z-Star XV for a few years. Every bit as good as the Pro V1 and Pro V1-X at a better price point.

The Z-Star will spin more compared to those as it is designed to.

The balls you listed will travel farther because they are designed to.

Z Star XV is my favorite ball of all time. Maybe you should try it, supposed to spin less than the original Z-Star.

The Z-Star is a 3 piece urethane covered ball that is designed to give high(er) spin levels across the board then some other premium balls.
However for the balls that you mentioned you usually use with the exception of the Chrome the Z-Star will spin less off the tee then the RXS and Project (a).
The reason could be that you actually need the spin the keep the ball in the air a ball to try would be the Pro V1 (not the X) and see if that stays in air longer.

Weird post. Could it be that there were other factors involved in your high score other than the ball, for example your swing? If you didn't like it, why not swap it after one hole?

Great ball and the Z-Star and Z-Star XV can be had now for $30 at DSG... even in yellow!
At that price point, it's really tough for me to grab the Nike White or Red in Volt at the same price..

Z-star XV are exceptional balls that performs similarly to the ProV1x at a lower cost. I still have a few boxes of the older models left. They seem to spin a touch less and feel a bit firmer than the v1x, but I don't mind. Overall, a high quality tour ball at a reasonable price.

I wouldn't say z star is garbage.... I don't like the golf ball as much as the XV as I prefer more firm feeling golf balls.

It obviously doesn't fit your game but calling it garbage is a little harsh...

Agree here, not as much green side spin but a touch longer into the green (probably marginal on both aspects)

If you go from a lower spinning ball as found on the list you posted (Project a, RXS) to a Z-Star ball, you will see more spin both backwards and sideways. Higher spin means less room for error through the ball or that ability to spin the ball more will come back to bite you in sidespin if you come through the ball in a non-straight manner.

Out of curiosity, what sort of swing speed do you have (driver and 6 iron)? I know the Z-Star is 88-108, but if you are at the high end you might want to try the XV instead like I am. I actually like the feel and flight of the XV over the "normal" Z-Star as the last thing I want is more spin. On monitors with demo balls (i.e. in store balls in hitting bays) I am 1000 rpm x number on the sole (i.e. 6 iron is 6000 rpm) and that is PLENTY of spin given my ball flight. If you are at the low end of the swing speed range you might look at the Q-Star balls instead. You might actually like them more if you prefer the Project a ball.

Always liked both models. Used the z-star in dryer conditions and the xv for wetter conditions. I get a little more distance from the xv. BTW....kicka$$ bag Tommy! :-)

Z-Stars are amazing. My favourite ball bar none. I enjoy dabbling with Pro V's now and then but I always go back to the Srixon's. Better all round performance for me and infinitely more durable.

Bought a dozen Z Stars and just played my first round with them, have to say one of favorite balls right up there with the ProV1... Spun one back about 20 feet (coming down a slope) with a 52 degree gap wedge from 105 yards right into the hole for an eagle two on a par 4 hole ! I like the bright white color too on the Z Star. Best deal out there right now at $30/dozen.

An eagle 2 during your first round with the Z Star sounds like a good introduction into my favorite ball. Stocking up on the deals they have now. I was able to grab 5 dozen for $100.

Yes it was cool, there was another group ahead waiting to hit on a par 3 hole and they saw the whole thing, so when we drove up to the green they were telling me that was awesome to see, its the kind of shot that makes you come back for more, not that I needed that incentive ! Where did you find that deal on the Z Star ?

The 5 dozen for $100 was off of ebay; small shop trying to get ride of 2014 stock. Locally, I have found them for $22.50 ($30 plus 25% off) and as low as $25 on Amazon. Lots of deals to be had. I have 8 dozen and hope to get a couple more. Should be good for a couple years then.

These balls are also tough. Bounced one twice off a cart path today and the ball was still very playable.

Unfortunately they don t bounce off of water equally well.

IMO, the entire Z-Star lineup is outstanding. Played them for about 3 year's now. Love the Tour Yellow.

Check ur local gg. They had last year's (non spin skin) for $20 a dz. Ymmv

The Z-Star series is the best yellow ball on the market.

I just picked up 6 dozen XV in yellow for next year.
