Adams xtd forged irons

Well corporate santa allowed me to purchase the adams XTD forged irons for $242 with tax this morning
I was able to take them out to play this afternoon.
Very smooth interaction with the grass.
5 iron was the hardest club to make solid contact.
PW and 7 irons were my favorite clubs.
I was very please with my purchase until my second shot on the par 4 #15
My head snapped off and went about 10 yards forward(see image)
So after my round i head back to PGA SS Paramus and picked up Titleist AP2 714 for an extra $117
My only gripe was with the store since i had to make the switch from adams to Titleist this evening.

I will stress the Adams XTD irons are great and nice to look at.
Sadly these clubs are not for me

Sorry to hear that! No issues at all with mine and they still look great. Your second choice wasn't too bad either.

I am amazed at how good some of the older Adams stuff is and how cheaply it can be bought on eBay. Really is a shame they couldn't survive on their own

I agree. I have been playing CB2s for many years and have yet to find a new set of irons to oust them out of the bag.

2nd round with mine yesterday and I'm in love. 7 greens hit, 3/4 par 3's hit, personal best all around. It was the first round of the year where I wasn't wearing a sweater and two gloves. My short game and putting has yet to be found, so the score didn't reflect my iron performance. My a few bad shots, but they were the swings fault. It feels great to have a set of irons I feel confident with again.

Currently playing the XTD A Tour irons with kbs tour shafts. Slightly bigger head then the XTD forged. Love the ball flight i get from them and off center hits still travel. The 4 and 5 have a slight clicky sound that is more like a hybrid sound than an iron but not enough to put me off.

Funny you say that. I don't play a 4 Iron, but my 5 Iron always sounded weird to me ... I thought maybe I did a lousy job installing the shaft. Now I know it's typical.

Thanks

I have XTD forged 5-PW with Pro Modus 120S shafts and this makes a big difference vs the C tapers which I didn't get on with. Great distance control and enough forgiveness. Any thoughts on these vs the XTD Tour??

I took the XTD forged for a spin at the sim today. I assumed I would pick up distance over my Mizuno combo set, thinking the lighter shaft might fit better.

Nope.

These are solid sticks, feel good, but are not on the same planet as my gamer set. Granted they were cheaper, but I even lost a few yards.

I put my Mizzy's back in the bag real quick when I got home, don't want to upset them...

This will make a wonderful travel set.

I am interested in this iron along with the xtd tours. For anyone who has hit both, is there a forgiveness difference between the two. I heard the tours are a bit larger?

The A tour have a slightly bigger head and are cast not forged. I've only hit the forged in a shop and they were nice but i didn't think i had the game for them. The A tours are very forgoving and i find i dont lose too much distance on mishits.

Just picked up a set of XTD forged off the BST. Looking forward to getting them on the course and seeing if they can knock my TM '11 Forged MCs out of the bag. Probably going to pull my Nippon Modus 130s out of my TMs and put them into the XTDs. I don't think I will get along well with the C-tapers and really love my Nippons.

I just moved from the exact same TM 11' forged to these and I don't regret it at all. I had the C Taper 120's in the TM's and moved to the C Taper 130's in the XTD forged. They feel great and I think make a little better interaction with the turf for me. With the stiffer shaft they should feel harsher but it is the opposite, a nice statement on how the heads feel in general.

How do you find these in terms of feel, forgiveness and distance compared to the TM?

I've played 3 times over the weekend with mine and all I can say is wow!! Hit some monster long irons, they feel so much better with the 130X flex than they did with the 120S of my last set, very forgiving, toe shots feel like good strikes too and hardly any distance loss... all in all very good, Sundays round consisted of 4 birdies and a 1 under gross... I'm happy.

I would go with the Adams being a bit more forgiving so far after 4 rounds with them. I have played in similar temperatures and with the same balls and feel like mishits are still felt but the irons have a softer feel and keep the ball flight straighter than the TM's. I do have the change from Stiff to X stiff CTaper shafts as well so that is probably helping my dispersion.

Distance with the limited sample size: I'm seeing about 7-10 yards less in the 5-6 irons, negligible difference on the 7-P.

I don't know that the difference between the two is enough to warrant switching over for a lot more than that these look pretty nice if you're using the same shafts. These are a bit softer feeling than the TM but I really liked both.

Received my new set of XTD forged this week. Got th set 5-pw with the Aldila RIP Tour 115 shafts in regular flex and 3 (21 ) & 4 (24) Dhy Proto with RIP hybrid 80 shafts. First off, these clubs with this shaft combo are beautiful! Got them out to the range this morning and am very pleased with the look, feel, an d performance. Going out on the course tomorrow. Matches well of course with my XTD driver, XTD-ti 3w & 18 hybrid. I think my bag is well set up now.

The XTD forged irons bumped Callaway Apex with Recoils from my bag.

So I got these out on the range today. I haven't had a chance to change the shafts out yet. Even with the C-tapers in these they launch extremely high for me. I would say at least 25%higher than my old TMs. I really liked the feel but not sure about the launch. I think putting my Nippon 130s would only exacerbate the problem. May need to try out some of Nippon's lower launch shaft options. But overall, very good first time out with them. I actually think the feel better on flushed shots than the TMs.

I gave the 120S Pro Modus 3 in mine. They fly high but straight and are at least a club longer than my old set. Although high they hold their line really well in the wind. In Texas it can blow pretty hard and a surprise gust and change of direction is normal down here. The XTD seem to hold up to this unless I am the one that put the side spin on. They also don't balloon into head winds at all. Not sure about the 130's vs the 120's though!

I hit mine the other day. Kinda what I expected from a 55 degree day in Central NY. I hope to get them going in some better weather. I will say going back to the Super Peening Blues was great as they reminded me of why I loved them, they can take everything you can give them.

I put them in the bag to replace the Taylormade MCs (2014) I had with regular shafts. I have C-Tapers (stiff) in them right now, and I love them. I don't know wether it was the head or the shaft or both, but I really like the feel, and are easily as good as the MCs. In my opinion, they aren't the most forgiving set out there, but aren't anymore forgiving than any other forged cavity back iron.

That's just my short experince with them.
