STU, This One's For You!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, I was in the Red, White & Blue Store, which I used to stop in every few weeks when I could drive(You People don't realize how lucky you are to be able to run out and jump in the car and just go, lol), though depending on others has cut it back to every few months, lol, when I can beg either My Bro or Madison to drive me, lol.

So I wasn't expecting much since I haven't gotten anything since the Radials last November-

When I saw these Mac's, my heart started to patter and I got visibly excited and I never even played friggin Macs, lol.

I immediately looked to first see that it was a complete set(3-9i), it was, and then that all of the irons were in decent shape-

They are better than decent-

I scrubbed some mat paint(I can't believe morons hit nice forged blades off of those mats that leave paint on the soles WTF, that's worse than cargo shorts ;) ), and polished em up and they all look like this 7i-

I'm gonna have some new multi-compounds put on em, and probably go with the S300's cuz the 400's that I was playin are probably gonna be too much shaft when I get back, however these irons are time less.

Oh yea, I play Stones 3's cuz my Mother is a three time survivor-

HaHa, I got the friggin Senior discount Baby!!!

50% Off-

$12.48

Stu, I've never really hit the Macs, what with Staff then Mizzy in the bag, however these puppies are a fine iron and I can't wait to crack em!!

Stay Well Bro!!

Have a great weekend Gals & Gents :)

All the Best,

Richard

Later Ed: 04/11/15, 9:23am-> Oh yea, they had the persimmon Dr, 3 & 5w in the bag(MT also) however they're really rough and probably need refinished to look equal to these.

As I only played Pena or Powerbilt drivers and woods, was the MT dr/wood equal to the irons in quality/prestige?

And the bag sucked, lol, trash.

Thanks again :)

Forged,
These may make Stu's heart flutter for sure. I always toted around Staffs as well , until I started hanging around here and some of Stu's comments piqued my curiosity. I since, have tried a few sets of the old Macs and now play them exclusively. I really like the way they are weighted.
Superb find, and one has to appreciate senior discount. He all have the battle scars of age to warrant it.

Yea, the Girl even made me show my license to prove that I was over 50yo, lmao.

It seems that the age for "Senior" status keeps dropping every few years, lol.

I know that AARP does it for a money grab, lol

Have a great weekend :)

Gents(or Gals :) ), were these the irons that Shark had rebadged and they called the MacCobras?

Thanks :)

Glad to see you are still involved in golf at some level! But the appreciation of the beauty of well-made tools never leaves us, I guess.

Looking forward to hearing about your progress and your first round back on the course.

Really enjoyed reading that thread...some great information about Norman and especially Don White...a master craftsman no doubt. I understand that the two sets of Macs that I have owned have had DWs hand in the design and he certainly makes a beautiful club. Real shame that MacGregor as a proper club manufacturer is not around anymore. It would be great if they could be resurrected along the same lines as the new Hogan.

Hope to hear a review of your Macs real soon :-)

Best regards

Mark

Wow RP those are nice! Yep my heart fluttered and what a bargain. I would say go with S-300s and maybe soft tip them at least one time. And like you I mostly played Power Bilt or Penna Woods with the exception of a Hogan 5 wood and a Northwestern 6 wood. Mac made great woods I just leaned toward the PB or Penna woods for some reasons. It would have really been great if you could have found the 10 iron with that set but they are as scarace as hen's teeth. Hurry up get well now we can go vintage you will have to give me 3 up a side especially if you have your 8802 in the bag

Dude, these irons have a nice muscle pad and are about the size of my Staff 59's. Whereas the 17's really are too thin and long heel-toe-

These irons can be put up against my 59s or 68s and they're right there, just like some of the old Hogans-

Thanks for dropping in :)

Have a great day and enjoy the Masters!!

Richard

Thanks RP. Had a decent day yesterday practiced trying some experimental clubs I put together during the week. Ended up playing 27 holes did ok. I have lost some 19 lbs of weight the last 6 months and I am getting through the ball too much now. I have sorta lost my famous baby cut and will either hit the ball straight or draw it some. I am trying to adapt and it is playing with my head some. Came home last night and watched the Masters even ate Masters Pimento cheese. Someone on another blog had gotten the recipe and my wife made it for me darn good just as I remembered it. I posted the results of the experimental clubs in the random conversation thread

 • 2 weeks later...

Unbelievably, I stopped by the same store where I got these irons on Weds and look what what was all by its lonesome in the bin, lol-

Probably got separated in the back as it was not there when I bought the set cuz the set was taped and besides, I went through the bin basically iron by iron.

Anyhoo, it's nice to get the complete set.

Have a great weekend Kathy Marie & Gents :)

Richard
LMAO, I actually sit in my chair when I'm watching the tournament with my glove on and a 7i and I'll sit there and grip and regrip the club with every shot/Player that they show, lol

I actually got some wear on that glove, lol

Thank You for the thoughts :)

Nice snag Richard. I pass that Red, White and Blue at least 3-4 times a week. I always wondered if there was anything good in there. Now I know! Enjoy the "new" clubs.
Thanks much Moz :)

Yea, when I could drive, I'd drive over from the N Hills 2-3 times a month however now that I'm reliant on others to drive, it's like once every 6-8 weeks, lol, though Maddie found a Sunbeam Toaster/oven in great shape the day that I got the Macs, so this time she even asked me if I'd like to stop by, LMAO.

I said sure, why not, this once, lol, cuz it's not like I've got a ton of stuff on my schedule, lol.

90% of the time, they've got trash, however that other 10% can be gold.

I've gotten pristine 680's, 690's, Mizzy 33's, and I've gotta believe that these three sets were bought by someone and they were just too much iron cuz I'm talkin they were 9-9.5/10 as though someone hit/played em for a month or two and then closeted them.

I also got a Razr Hawk Tour with a GD 9003 T Stiff shaft(which I play in all my drivers) and whatever the Cally release driver was before the Razr Hawk, the FT-3 T I believe, with the aftermarket Adilla NV shaft in it for $24.99. I'm gonna pull it, have a TMG adapter tip put on it and stick the shaft on my pink RBZ ST 2 T head. At least it will be color coordinated, and if I don't like it, who cares, lol.

Also, a pristine set of Hogan Radials which I may try if my blades are too much for me. I'm gonna get the TT S300's put in em with the multi-compound grips.

It's weird though I get more excited when I find a great set of irons or driver in RW&B than when I walk into to a shop and buy a brand new set. My only thought then is "damn, these blades are Beautiful and this is the best that they will ever look again," lol.

It's definitely worth stopping!!

Have a great week Bro :)

"The Hunt". Thrift stores, estate sales, garage sales, pawn shops, eBay, scouring Craigslist with the morning coffee. It's become a compulsion, an addiction of sorts. I need to come to grips with what I have wrought.

Then you find that SC Mizuno putter for peanuts and flip it for $160 and say to yourself....."well that was fun".
