Gonna have a few buttery blades in the set for the Mizuno experiment. Not a great idea, but the entire experiment is stupid, so why not pile on.

Regardless of whether or not it works out, I've decided I hate playing with the set gap wedge that came with my IE1s. Gonna pick up a 50 degree at some point soon to swap in.

Just did the same thing.. ditch the stock G for a 50 MD forged.

Just a lot more handy then the stock... for knock down shots and it is one stop hop club now

I never played a set GW before, but the heads I bought were 4-U so I tried it out. Unfortunately, it didn't give me very many shiggles.

I actually really like my set GW (900 Forged). Had the 800 Pro GW and liked that too. Domes hated the same club.

Yeah, I use the GW from my MX-300's instead of a 50º I have at home. I feel more confident. Less like I'm gonna dig.

I still remember the last shot I hit with the 800 Pro GW. Bladed from 110 yards over the #2 green into the hazard at Piedmont.

Then I rescued one of the 50*s from the abusive wedge home of Mtn.

By the way, I promise if that name wins I will produce some sort of "media" for Mtn's Golf Club House of Abuse.

I might do it anyway.

Make sure it has a BB gun in it. And some sort of attack dog.

I'm confused, is Mtn's Golf Club House of Abuse like a house in a horror movie where I take the clubs down to the basement and torture them, using blow torches to soften their epoxy until I can twist their vile little heads; or is it the rescue shelter where my clubs escape to when I pass out drunk one night and forget to lock the basement door?

Both. Clearly. Middle-of-the-night woke-up drunk MTN and his clubs. Shutter.

My view of Mtn's Original Golf Club House of Abuse is something like a kennel for dogs, except people take their misbehaving golf clubs there for you to abuse them and then return them to their owners.

And that you have a small but diverse inventory of golf clubs for sale that either Mtn himself has abused or come from "Mtn Certified Golf Club Abusers", so you have confidence that they're properly abused when you purchase.

One Day OCGC Member Guest OCGolfRick Recap:

Ah, what could have been. So close!

Nerf and I tee it up around 4pm Friday. Thanks to the Delmarva Bike Week, in which thousands of 60 years olds pretend they are hardcore bikers, traffic was unbelievably bad or we would have teed it up earlier. We had to go straight to #2 Newport Bay to hit in the closest to the pin contest, which got you into a hole in one contest for $50K. I had warmed for about 20 min on the range, and it was Nerf's first swing of the day. Nerf left it short of the green, while yours truly stuck it to 9ft 1inch- qualifying me for 4th in the contest! Played the front 9, then headed in for dinner, betting and the contest.

The contest was on #9 Seaside- and it was from 175 out. Closest 25 all day qualified. I step up and ...... knock it the left greenside bunker. Thanks for playing. Former Colt Bruce Laird had the closest shot to the pin, and me and him still tied with a $0 payout.

We headed out after to Burley Oak for some great beer. (OCGolfRick recommendation: The 100. VTNerf: Watermelon Jream.) Only problem was the band :Funk Shue.

I mean, they tried, but let's face it, you're four white hipster kids trying to play funk music. I only recoginzed "Brick House" because of the beat.

Friday Am. We're warming up. This is the 2nd biggest MG event of the year and one of the clubs 4 "majors" . I look over at our opponents and...he's only got 11 clubs. I tried to sneak a photo but I could never get where one of them wasn't looking at me. I swear the brand was something called VLC on the irons. We wondered if he'd stopped at a yard sale on the way to the course.

We play them first match. The poor guy. He's out of it on just about every hole. We get to #16 Newport and he's getting a half stroke. He's on in 2! I make par from above the hole, and he's got a 3 footer straight up for the win. He misses and I win the hole. I think that just dejected him so much he crapped out the rest of the day. We beat them 6-4.

Next match we play a twosome that we knew was going to be a tough match. One of them birdied #9 Newport our first hole right out the gate. I win #1, and tie them on #2. They won with pars on #3, and I win #4. We tie #5, and Nerf makes a great tie with them on #6. So we're even going into #7 the short par 3.

I step up and knock one on to about 20 feet. Nerf finds the left bunker, and our opponents are short. I look in the bunker and Nerf's ball is DEAD. Its not in the bunker, its on 1/16 of grass on a finger sticking in the bunker with the ball a foot below his feet. "Welp, its up to me," I think.

NOPE.

Nerf hits an amazing flop shot on 16 feet. He makes the putt for 3. One of our opponents called it the greatest par he'd ever seen. I did convert for 3 but it was anticlimatic after Nerf put them away with that putt. We lose the last hole to tie 4.5-4.5.

Meanwhile, our 3rd opponent took our first behind the woodshed to an 8-2 drubbing. We needed to beat them bad. It came down to the last hole, as they ran in a birdie putt beat us 6-4. Our 2nd opponent demolished our 1st again 8-2 and end up taking the flight by .5 point.

Had a great time and kind of wished we got our 1st opponent later in the match when they were pretty much mailing it in drinking. Oh well. Newport is HARD right now, iron shots how to be bounced on to get close to pins. Neat to play it that way.

Time for the Hive battle cry: "Just wait till next year!"

I so had a chance to go with the "Go get that!!!!" after that par putt on 7, but declined it.

I did, however, tell him to "put the cart over there and just watch this!" split a couple of trees that were 10 yards in front of me and around 18" apart. Hit it about 5 yards short of the green. The story stops there...

I've played an AW from the iron set recently, but in the past I've used a separate wedge. Right now I have a set 47* PW, set 51* AW, and then 54/58 vokeys. In the past I've played a set 47* PW with 52/56/60 wedges.

It's mental more than anything for me. I feel more comfortable take a full swing with a set 51* AW than a non-set 52* wedge for some reason. Once I get to my two non-set wedges, that's the point at which I'm typically not taking a full swing. I haven't taken a full swing with my 58* (or former 60*) in two years probably. I've been rethinking that recently, but haven't acted on it. During my brief status as #prosully I was watching DJ in the Northern Trust playoff, and after his monster drive on 18 he had 80 yards in and took a full swing with a 60 to knock it stiff. I need to work on that in the offseason.

I am eyeing some iron changes, but I like my current ones enough that I can't bring myself to lay out the money to experiment. Main thing is that I want to keep using the Recoils, which limits the BST options I have and jacks up the price on any brand new irons. And I don't want to pull the shafts in case I don't like the new stuff I get and want to go back. Maybe I'll give steel a try again.

No buttery blades for me. My current ones are cavity back forged, and I'm looking to go chunkier not slimmer (much like CFree at the strip club).

Been poking around game improvement irons. Love my irons on solid strikes, but think GI's could help on two areas I could use help on: 4/5 iron, and toe hits off shorter clubs. Not looking for anything to go straighter or longer, but I would like some tighter distance dispersion between pure strikes and non-pure strikes.

I don't know how old it is, but I've just discovered "Smokin' Jay Cutler" and it's fantastic.

We need our own superfriend version of this, ASAP.

I've done a mix of JPX 900 Forged in 5-GW and then JPX 900 HM in the 4 iron. Scoring irons and wedges look good but have a good bit of help in the 4 iron. Have an internal debate if I should have done 5 iron in the HM as well. Could do something similar with any OEM, but I think its a nice combo for us mid handicappers.
