So am I reading things right, Srixon Z-Stars play like something between an NXT Tour and a Pro V1?

GTF:

1 New pair of FJ DNAs that are still in the box

2 Different pairs of Ross Nikes (blue and white but somehow different styles)

1 pair of FJ DNAs that are well worn and so comfy

I actually really like the feel of the DNAs (first version) and hope that as some more time passes the ebay prices get even lower to pick another pair or two up. Feel so good.

Shoulder is killing me, so naturally I stopped by golf galaxy to take a couple cracks with some of the new drivers. For shiggles, of course.

The monitor is useles, unless my clubhead spead is actually down to 90mph, with 200'ish yard carry distance.

Epic SZ with stock rogue max, m1 460 with KK tini silver, and F7+ with stock Fuji something.

The F7+ feels the best, by a yuge margin. It's maybe a smidge louder than the LTD, which I like.

Let me know when you want to pay that LTD head forward.

I too stopped by GG to hit the Epics. Loved the sound, feel. Flight was like midget high tho, even after lofting up. Best was 240 carry, 279 total, numbers I believe to be accurate.

A guy I know who can legit smash it was hitting 325 yard bombs. Plays with a cross hand grip with every club. Some of you on here might know who he is.

Anyway, he's buying one for sure. Best to best, he was about 15 yards longer on average than the 917 he was also testing (309-310). Asked about getting an 85X for his shaft. Straight beast.

Would love to see PQ and him go head to head in a LD contest.

Saw some big numbers today as well.

A couple easily 300 guys. One guy needs a matrix white tie to bring down his spin and another Fubuki 70x.

Two different swings but both mashed it.

Didn't witness it but another fitter had a guy reach 83 ball speed and monitor picked him up around 340 (professional baseball player). --- monster!

Got to swing a 13.5 Sub zero FW with 85x-- it was funny.

Still almost got the same club head speed over my driver --- embarrassing right now. I love trackman but sometimes it is better to not know your numbers.

Ifi knew I had somebody lined up to take the LTD, it'd all but lock it up that I impulse buy a new driver lol.

Seriously though, the LTD has ruined drivers for me. It feels so F'ing sweet. The F7+ also felt fantastic. Makes the Epic and M* feel like complete trash.

I'm not near the high swing speed guy someone like PQ is but I've always liked the X flex shafts around 70 or 80g. Has always felt/performed better for me in the driver.

The Rogue Silver 70X that I love in the Epic is actually near 80g IIRC.

Also much intrigued by seeing the Flightscope Mevo today. Something like that in the sub $500 category could be pretty interesting.

You mean Black Tie, right Tex? White tie is the highest launching/highest spinning of that matrix trio.

What do they despise about Torrey? If you ignore the views, I guess I could see it being considered kind of boring. Kind of US-Open-like...long, narrow fairways, really tough rough.

The greens on the new course, the green complexes (on both?), the fact that it is set up unnecessarily long and tough - for what is the first stateside tourney for these guys. I think the one course yesterday was setup at 7700+ yards in spite of the torrential rain they've gotten so it played over 8,000? I like seeing tough setups but I can see why guys wouldn't want to play this event in January.

shackelford complained about the course on shackhouse and said the players don't like it. First interview i saw during the coverage was justin rose who loved it. who knows if he's just saying that because he's playing well or if he doesn't want to be openly critical but my takeaway is that shackelford is a whiner who complains about 99% of courses

Eagle...NO

The White tie fit is swing and brought his spin numbers down and aunch up. He like/had to low of a launch but needed that to come up but his spin down. So, the Matrix White tie (High launch/Low spin) brought up his numbers to what the handy dandy paper says is optimized.

9.0 SZ with weight in the front...

I know shafts too...here is the website you should search for more information about some Cowboys.com....

what would your intended use be? i'm skeptical because

1) doppler based launch monitors are intended for outdoor use

2) does it really help figure out your swing without path angle and face angle?

Tex, there is no such thing as a "high launch, low spin shaft." If the only parameter you are changing is the shaft itself, higher launch means higher spin.

HL, LS shafts are a myth.

Thanks eagle.

I'll be sure to write Matrix golf and other shaft company and tell them they don't know what they are talking about.

Off all the different shafts we tried, this did exactly what it was suppose to do. Brought up his launch and lowered his spin.

I sprinkled tour issue unicorn dust on the shaft before installing.

Using at the range to work on my yardages. Not sure how you would use it to figure out your swing.

If its actually measuring launch angle and backspin its light years ahead of the SC100 (and 200) that I used to have - which just calculated the launch angle based on the loft of the club you had entered. Not a lot of concrete information on it just yet though.

Hey if any of you guys need or maybe have a son or friend in need, Im clearing out some cleats that are in real nice shape:

Got a grey/white pair of new balance 574 and a pair of spikeless Footjoy contour casual black and green for free or just shipping. Went on a bit of a binge lately and need to clear some out. Both size 12s, if not Ill just donate them or put them in pay it forward or something.

Eagle has a point but I am skeptical of both shaft makers and Wishon, they ultimately each have their own agendas and philosophies. Launch and spin are merely guidelines or starting points, because different shaft profiles respond to different swings, and vice versa too. That's why some of us end up playing best with shafts that "should not work". Bottom line is the golfer ends up with a set up that he or she perceives is best, whether on paper or on the course. IMO the best set up is one maximizes distance and accuracy, on the course, without the golfer even having to think about the club in hand. I love data and analytics as much as the next guy, but this is where I think fitting becomes more of an art.

Everyone has their opinions.

Not all shafts are equal.

I just try to find what feels the best and produces good to the best numbers. Unfortunately, inside you are reliant on a machine/the trust for your fitter.

Nowadays everyone knows more, so it's a check of egos at fittings.

However, online..suck it Eagle

Thats what she said.

But on the actual topic, I am with you. I think a lot of times people want this or that popular shaft to be the one that fits them most, but during my fitting experience I found that its most advantageous for you to literally put all that aside and just accept what the fitter deems best. I was surprised at a few people, who went in and said I want this shaft…and then watched it perform less than another one, but still walked away with it. Now feel is subjective and I understand that angle, but leaving 10-20 yards or a tighter dispersion on the board just to look dope for your WITB pics?

Sure you could ultimately pick that trendy shaft, but if its not the best for you why play it? But I do wonder how many, especially on this site would rock a Graffalloy Blue or the likes if that was the best fit for them…..

This is what happens when marketing has to take over. Golf gear is nearly a commodity product at this point. Shaft makers, Callaway, Titleist, everyone, are not differentiating themselves from the pack based on their product any longer. So then we jump in to classification and marketing of what a shaft does and it has a tenuous link with reality.
