I took a 7 iron out on the course today. It had theModus 105 stiff installed. My I15 7 iron is +1/2" with Z-Z65 shaft. Hit at least 60/70 balls into a couple dozen holes. By specs, I expected the new iron to be 1-2 yards longer. I was shocked that it was more like 6-8 yards. Flew higher and felt better. Not sold yet on the shaft. Too high.

Most don't have a glue as to the true physics of golf ball flight. With the movement of the CTP deeper into the clubhead launch will increase for any given loft of club. The loft and COG must work together to give the launch and spin desired with any given club. A deeper and slightly rearward COG will require a slight adjustment in loft to give the desired trajectory and spin. Otherwise the club will tend to launch higher and with more spin than is optimal for a given loft. You can't compare raw loft figures without taking into account differences in construction, COG and MOI. It is quite possible that a 48 deg muscle back PW will launch lower than a 45 deg PW of a cavity back with a much lower and deeper COG and higher MOI. This of course assumes the same shaft, club head speed and angle of attack.

I have always been a Ping fan and currently play the Karsten irons and a Ping G30 driver. The only Ping I have never liked was the PingZing Irons, just too ugly for me. These new irons look appealing and I'm sure they are top quality. I will probably try someones just to check them out. However, currently not in the market so I will pass on purchasing.

OK, having seen a couple of video reviews of these irons I am actually pretty impressed. Spin numbers in particular look really good considering the slightly stronger lofts.

I was hopeful for the new Modus shafts, but they look too light and too high launching for me. It looks like I will have to go with custom shafts.

Can someone explain the CFS distance shaft again? I believe on the G30 it was a longer shaft, nothing different but just cut to a longer length. So is the CFS Distance in the i iron the same as the CFS that came in the i25 and not any longer than the other shaft options?

It sucks they put a badge on the back. I do like the finish and the heel relief will attract more players that did not play the i25's because of the wide sole.

IMO, after hitting the demos, these are not going to drastically improve an i25/i20 players game to justify the new purchase...However, if you just want to have the new flavor of the month, then Ping will gladly take your money...

You definitely need a new set of irons, and the short irons look money. Better grind, better top line, softer, what's not to like.

Got a chance to hit ie1 7 iron today with the CFS Distance shaft. Distance was good but what really got me was the feel. To me they felt a lot better than the i25s. Pure shots felt better and when I hit it one off the toe it wasn't as harsh. Between looks (standing over the ball) and feel they have a winner here. No way I will get rid of my s55s but if I was still playing my i20s I would be placing a new order very soon.

Think I'll pass on these. @ £780 ($1220) here in the UK, it's probably pertinent to see if the cost will come down in a few months, or pick up a set of i25 for 60% of that cost.

These will need to be a significant step up from the i25 for me to bite. The i25s look great (better than the i, IMO), but they are distance-challenged. If the i does not improve on that, I will pass, too.
