Can you shoot lights out one day and then can't hit the broad side of a barn or do you play steady boring golf, whats your make up?

I'm definately the Jeckle/Hyde type. It seems when I'm all relaxed and not really paying attention to score, etc. I will shoot a great game. The next time I go out, I pay close attention to everything trying to beat my last score and end up playing horrible.

Most of the time, my golf is boring because I usually make lot of pars. I did use to be jeykll/hyde type of player back when I was an excellent putter. Nowdays, I do a better job of keeping the ball in play but unfortunately, I don't know how to regain my putting stroke & confidence in my putting stroke, still looking for it.

See, I'm just the opposite, if I do pay attention = a long day. When I'm relaxed and just swing, I seem to play much better. I guess it all comes down to if I am paying attention to my swing, I end up being too tight across the shoulders and think my way through my swing vs when I'm relaxed, it's more just a feel. Also, when playing relaxed I don't try and go 400 yards off the tee, I'm just trying to put it in play and will typically have some of my better drives too.

I guess I just need a Gin and Tonic before every round :idhitit:

Thanks,

Well, you may think that's boring golf, but it sounds like what you play is my 2 year goal. I shoot in the 90's now, and for every par I make, I tend to back it up with a double bogey so at the end of the day I'm normally playing Bogey Golf or worse. So boring for you is shooting the lights out for me :idhitit:

From tee to green I'm a steady eddie for the most part. My putting is Jekyll/Hyde. If I can get my putter hot I can go low, if usual then right around par, if it's off..........lord help me.

For example, last three rounds Par 72:

74 - 1 birdie, 16 pars, 1 double.........8 birdie putts lip out.

71 - 2 birdies, 1 eagle, 12 pars, 3 bogies,.... 6 birdie putts lip out.

75 - 1 birdie, 13 pars, 4 bogeys...... 6 birdie/par putts lip out / 2 chips lip out.

I'm just so close to making a breakthrough it's frustrating. And when I mean lip out, I'm not talking about going by the edge....I mean spin outs. This game is so damn cruel.

I can go holes and holes with just pars. This year managed to shoot 18 staright pars in a round. Definently a steddie eddy. Consectutive rounds only tend to deviate by 2 or 3 shots.

I'm definately the Jeckle/Hyde type. Heres a prime example....

Last sat I am playing in our weekend skins game and while my GHIN is 7.4 it works out to a 9 at my course.

I par the first hole, then make 3 straight doubles, I eagle the par 5 5th, then bogey, double, bogey and par to finish the front. ( both bogeys are 3 jacks from 15-18 ft)

On the back, bogey, bogey (2 more 3 jacks from 15-18 feet) par, par, par, birdie, par, par

All this for an 81.....par is 72 - shot what I should have, but it was a trainwreck!

I bill myself as being the best 15 hole golfer there is...the king of 5 birdies, 3 doubles and 10 pars.  I think that qualifies as Jeckyll/Hyde.  :cheesy:

I'm with you there B! :idhitit: I swear I can shoot a typical BR61 boring round and the next day just completely :cheesy: all over the course. I know it means I should be practicing more, but who has tiime for that when you can play! :cheesy:

I don't know if I should answer since I never shoot lights out.

Being a hobby golfer once a week at best and practicing less than I play, I can stay pretty close to my 13 handicap. I allow myself a couple of bad shots from the fairway usually knowing it's a result of poor pre-shot routine, and the tee shot usually takes four or five holes before it finds the fairway regularly.

The main factor that keeps me Hyde-like is the short game, mainly the pitch shot. I'm usually going to drop shots like crazy if I need to use a partial swing.
