The KuroKage is Mitsubishi Rayon's TOUR-only Kuro Kage XMS prototype shaft. Supposed to have a stiffer midsection and softer tip for a higher launch angle with more spin vs. the XTS.

“Just like we have White Board and Blue Board, Kuro Kage XTS basically just stood for an extra stiff shaft tip,” said Avery Reed, Mitsubishi Rayon’s Tour rep. “On the flip side of it, there are guys [XTS] is too tip-stiff for. So now we have an option for those players with Kuro Kage XMS.

“The XMS basically stands for an extra stiff midsection. It’s going to have a softer tip section than XTS, but it’s going to be considerably stiffer in the middle of the shaft, which helps it create a higher launch. For guys that need a Blue Board profile, this is going to be a good fit.”
I like knowing the rigidity of the different sections of the shaft. That is very helpful to know how it will feel and what swing types it might fit.

This XMS sounds very similar to Nippon Formula M which is stiff butt & mid section and softer tip for higher launch but mid spin. The Silver TiNi versions of the Kuro Kage, the is close to a Nippon Regio Formula M which is softer butt, but stiffer midsection and tip. There is also a Regio Formula MB now in Japan that has stiff butt, soft middle, stiffer tip which sound very similar to the Kuro Kage Black XT. I think I resonate most with these, the stiffer butt, softer mid, stiffer tip.

Anyone know how how the XTS stacks up against the TiNi version? I'd be interested in trying the XTS and Silver TiNi versions to compare.

Is there a Kuro Kage chart for their different models similar to this one below?

Yes there is but XMS is not charted yet since it's still in prototype phase. Similar to Blueboard though. Stiff butt, stiff tip (not as stiff as XT), and soft mid.

How does this compare to the Tour Only shaft? ( I believe that's what it is called ). They sound very similar. Thanks

Yes. I have a Tour or Proto Kuro Kage. It's also a very "blueboard" type profile.

The web site had a Kuro called tour only that was a slightly different profile than the XTS. I believe it was based off the Proto not positive.

I believe he is referring to the full ion plated version that was etched "2013 proto" obviously released in 2013.

Figured i'd Chime in here to help clarify this a bit.....

Back in the day (2012/2013) we had "two" Tour Only Prototype KURO KAGE's. We were experimenting with TiNi Wire at the time. The KURO KAGE Tour Edition shaft we released to the After Market with full Ion Plating was one of those two original prototypes and was a more "tip stiff" lower launching profile. Over time, with a few tweaks this profile became what today you now know as the KURO KAGE XT Series.

The New KURO KAGE Black TiNi Prototype you are seeing tested recently is based of off the "other" Prototype that we never made available to the General Public. It is a more "mid-launching" smooth profile that too has been refined and is headed to the markeplace.

Hope that helps. If not, keep firing questions!
