KM-

Ben Hogan's quote pretty much says it all.

Ironmaster and Teevons have some extensive MacGregor collections.

Know for a certainty some of their holdings have "Louise Suggs" signature clubs.
Ironmaster's team mate even used one, with "Louise Suggs" name on the crown covered with electrical tape.

Even Ben Crenshaw had coveted an unusually large MacGregor Louise Suggs persimmon wood.

George Peters also has more than a few Louise Suggs Persimmon woods, and some irons as well-

Yes, I wrote Louise Suggs c/o the LPGA back in late March- it appears I'll have to read her autobiography to find some of the answers.

Rest In Peace.

*FLASH*

I received a very lovely note and Louise Suggs book from Cathy Levering of the LPGA the day Mae Louise Suggs left this world.

From the Preface of her book- And That's That!

Ode to Golf

I wonder sometimes what it's worth to me
These hours I spend on the practice tee?
And then I conclude that it's quite all right
To be slashing away from morning till night
If you love the old game as much as I
There can be no limit except the sky.

Very nice, Kathy. Thank you.

Louise Suggs was born here in Atlanta, and her father was a golf professional. In fact, he was the first head pro at a nearby course that I have had the good fortune of getting to play a couple times a year (its a private country club). It was built in 1948 (iirc) and was the sight of the Carrollton Open, an LPGA event, from 1950-1955. Miss Suggs won it twice, in 1951 and 1954. There are many pictures in the clubhouse of her and other LPGA stars like Babe Zaharias and Patty Berg. I'll have to see if they are doing anything to remember her this week.

I found this great quote from her:

“Golf is very much like a love affair,” Suggs once said. “If you don’t take it seriously, it’s no fun, but if you do, it breaks your heart. Don’t break your heart, but flirt with the possibility.”

And if you play persimmon, you're my friend

In addition to being on the MacGregor staff, Louise was a family friend. She played bridge with my aunt, Toney's wife, when she lived in DelrayBeach weekly. I caddied for my dad when she played an exhibition match with Toney at Beverly CC prior to the Tam'O Shanter tournament in the late '40s . She was not a long hitter, but hit a lot of greens. She had a record in a major which was winning by about a dozen strokes. A very nice person

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
