In response to Barney Adams article, ideas on what to do with the Us open !!

Ok guys, what are the ideas to make this tournament more exciting ?

We've heard Jack talk about the ball, probably not going to work ...we've heard use old clubs , probably not going to happen ...so what can they do .

I propose they have a limited number of clubs ... Maybe 6 clubs.

Most bags will consist of something like

Putter, 60, 9, 5, 5 wood, Driver

I think that way they can still play the same way , but get a little inventive on the approach shots, and we can see their skill some more rather than the robotic distance hitting machines they are

Ok your turn , go!!!

So you think A 6 club maximum it's more likely to happen than bringing back the ball?

And by "this tournament" what are you referring to? You may say it in the title but I'm on mobile and can't see it all.

Here's a thought.............Instead of spending big bucks to buy land to lengthen golf courses or bring back the balls as JN offers, how about just reduce the size of the hole on the green. I think the current size is something like 4.25 inches. reduce that .25 by half or even eliminate it. Just thinking out of the box, but it would be the cheapest and easiest aspect of the game to change.

That still makes everything the same just a few more missed putts though . I want to see them challenged !!

You want to eliminate the hole in golf to make it more exciting???

lets eliminate the basket in basketball because there's too much scoring while we are at it.

How about speeding up play, or actually enforce speed of play rules already in place.

I have no desire to see the PGA Championship turned into goofy golf. It's a fine tournament as is..............but, if I were to change anything............I'd pull a page from the Masters playbook. Build a beautiful new parkland style course in the middle of the country somewhere (think Coore & Crenshaw)..............and have it be the permanent location for The PGA Championship. I'd copy a lot of things The Masters does but have an entirely different style of course.

Strive to have some of the finest turf, the biggest greens, and the best practice facility in the world. What better way to showcase your championship and organization. We have enough famous clubs hosting the US Open, be different and build a tribute to your organization.

Ah!, some fine extraneous logic at play here..............Assessed 2 penalty strokes for just being........

You don't think that would be more of a challenge? The only other ways to challenge have been offered, longer holes, change the ball, put land mines around the greens..........OK maybe not the land mines, but the only realistic change, that the powers that be would consider is adding length. But, where does this stop?

They will leave the PGA Championship alone. One problem with the PGA Champ. is that it lacks identity. The Masters is known as the beautiful, majestic tournament steeped in tradition and awe. The US Open is known for being the toughest test of golf each year and is open to anyone who can qualify. The British Open is known as the tournament that brings the biggest names in golf back to the game's roots, on some of the world's most recognizable courses and in conditions in which golf was intended to be played. The PGA is known for....well, there's the....of course you have the....hmmm....what is it known for?? That's the problem with the PGA Champ.

It's the last major of the year, so it has a chance to cap the season. But there are a lot of people who seem to feel like the majors are over after the British Open and can't wait until Augusta rolls back around. If the PGA Championship could hang its hat on something that captured the golf world, then this conversation is not being had.

In a game where jumbo 460CC drivers have become the easiest club to hit in the bag, and where courses spend millions lengthening, watering, fertilizing, etc. championship courses, you want to make putting harder?

Almost as silly as the anchored stroke ban, and that one is real!

Go back to match play. Play it like they play the Amateur - 36 holes of stroke play, then 64 player match play bracket, go 36 holes per match. It'll be grueling, and the winner will have to outplay and outlast his competition.

If it's about the US Open, then.... Play it like they (the USGA) play the Amateur - 36 holes of stroke play, then 64 player match play bracket......

Why not try to make it more difficult than US open? super long, same course every year, build a course wherever the pga is home. Just a thought. I'd love to see the game's best SCRAMBLING to shoot +2 or 3
