Cobra King Pro Irons....What ya got???

Recommended Posts

I've had the Black CB's since February and they still look as good as the day I bought them. This finish is the real deal. I have black PVD wedges and those have obviously worn down and started wearing right away. If I cleaned these up, I don't think you could tell if these were almost a year old or a week old. The finish is amazing.

Edit: I played college golf and had practice either on the course or range everyday plus whatever meets we played and these still look brand new. Whatever this finish is, they should keep it to themselves and let the other companies continue to use PVD.

That is super impressive. I love everything about these clubs after hitting them the other day... I will be buying them, and you may have just convinced me to go with the black.

they are fantastic clubs...when I first got them was seriously concerned about the smallish looking blade length (had been off for a few years with a bad back). Decided to give them a shot and after a couple months absolutely love them. They are more forgiving that you'd expect, feel great (I love the C - Tapers too), and as others have said, they are sneaky long...very surprising. I have the black and the finish looks great after about 7 weeks of play and some range time (sandy ranges here in Fla!). I also murdered them out and much prefer the all black look. Currently play 5-8 in CB's and 9-GW in MB's. Looking at picking up extra sets, maybe an all CB set just in case they get phased out soon...

Any update on the finish? It sounds like the finish is pretty sturdy. I play on really sandy soil and I'm just worried that the finish might not hold up as good.

multiple rounds (20+) on mine at sandy Florida courses with additional range time and while the finish has "dulled" a bit (not quite as deep black) on the sole and impact area, the finish is holding up incredibly well. Completely different world than black ox or PVD. Love the finish, couldn't be happier. The other great thing about it is bag dings show much less than chrome.

I've had mine since February and played at least 50 rounds if not more and they still look amazing. They look brand new when compared to my friends Nike Vapor PVD finish.

Hey Guys,

Looking for some help here - I've been searching for a set of these for a while, and came across a nice looking set with one either major or minor exception depending on what it is.

The set looks nice, faces and soles look clean and relatively unused - However, the fella attempted to remove the paint fill, which I'm fine with, but I can't tell if the acetone removed that purrty black finish I love so much, or if he just did a poor job removing the paint fill and it smeared around and was never completely removed or cleaned off.

Those of you who have done this to these clubs can you advise if it is even possible for the acetone to remove the black finish, or if you think this is just a poor paint fill removal attempt?

Didnt affect the black finish on the ones i did. Not easy getting the paint out of these heads for some reason. Very stubborn. I gave up on some of the paint. Lol of course both sets i have are for sale now. I'll let whomever the new owner is get the rest out

Are they on BST.... I'm in the market haha.

My best guess is the smearing you see on those heads is not the black fading from acetone or any paint remover (that will not remove the finish from what I've experienced) but rather it is a smearing of the silver paint used in the King Cobra logo. Only other possibility is he used some sort of scothbrite pad and that would dull the finish. It looks like an incomplete removal of the silver paint. I used Citrus paint remover from any hardware store and it worked as expected.

I think you are SPOT ON with the smearing of the silver paint. Wehn I used acetone to remove the paint, that smearing would occur but soaking them would get it off. I let my MBs sit in acetone, naval jelly and citrus paint remover for over an hour and nothing like this happened.

I had over 20 rounds on mine before I sold them and they looked great. Nothing like the nike vapor flys. Those look horrible after 2 rounds.

Something to think about when doing paint, if you're going to a darker color, you really don't need to strip, just paint over. I went from black to red on my clubs and honestly, sometimes it's not hard to just cover up

  • 3 weeks later...

Just following up, as I have been active in this thread in the past wanting to buy a set of these for a while. Came across a new in wrapper set for a killer deal. Just finished the paint fill on these. Went with glossy black, which I think makes for a killer murdered out look.

Left the silver in the iron number for now though, seemed like it would be easier to pick out the correct club haha. Ive pulled the wrong club plenty of times, so i imagine it might be a regular occurrence with black number on a black head haha.

Those look amazing. I've debated whether to go with the murdered out look.

It was kind of a pain in the rump to get the CBs done the way I wanted. I get super OCD about the way my clubs look haha, and the CBs made it a bit difficult to keep the paint fill lines clean and crisp, so took some patience in that regard, but I really am happy with the way they turned out. Not to mention I absolutely love these clubs man, absurdly underrated in my opinion.

Well that sucks because I have the full CB set and Cobra as a whole is really underrated. Their stuff just flat out works for me.

Couldn't agree more - I honestly think I could bag 13 Cobra clubs and be happy as a clam with their performance. Their upcoming PUR wedges look fantastic, the F6 Baffler is my favorite club of all time, King Pro irons are as good as they get (best CB ever made IMHO), and take your pick on the drivers.

I'm looking at the F7 hybrid and PUR wedges when I need to replace mine. It'll take a lot to get my M2 and R15 5 wood out of the bag but man I wish I was sponsored so I could get free clubs.

I keep getting drawn to this set. Hit them inside the other day and think I'll pull the trigger. I really prefer the slightly weaker lofts and have been playing variations of combo sets for years. I was about to order them in chrome but I'm liking the black with the paintfill removed.

I was in the chrome boat at first, but after hearing about the durability of the black heads and seeing them down by the ball it was impossible to pass on them.

That sounds great, I was way fearing they would end up wearing like other black clubs I have had.

These clubs in the black finish call out to me just like the MP-5's did. Keeping my eyes out for a bargain on a set, but it'll probably be another year or two before they come down to where I want. Not ready to flip my MP-54's & MP-5's to buy a set of these. Without certainty though, I -will- own a set of these one day.

Something that I think gets overlooked on these irons because the looks are such a drawing point, is the incredible feel. I think this is what surprised me the most when I hit them for the first time in a golf shop a few months ago. Add that to the black and the way they sit down by the ball and it's pretty darn complete package for those who are into that kind of thing at least.

These are very high on my list (716 mb).

If you haven't seen/hit these yet, they're smaller heel to toe and overall more compact than the 716's - Not a tremendous amount but certainly noticeable especially in the black. Also less offset throughout the set, which for me was the selling point. Both iron sets have fantastic feel, so can't go wrong with either just depends what you're looking for in a club.
