MD/DC/VA Golfers - This One Goes to Eleven

I don't know how I address the ball with it and I'm not going to start thinking about it or I'll mess it up. I hit my hybrids fine.

Stop the crusade against hybrids. TheCityGame won't sleep until he's ruined them for all of us.

+1 +1 and +1

I like to play a slight fade with the hybrid. At the end of the season I had someone ask me what hybrid it was because every hybrid was a "hook machine". Thats gotta be the most over repeated fake news about clubs that I've heard. Hybrids aren't hook machines.

None of those pictures would work for me and they arent the only two options. Make sure the shaft is perpendicular at setup - and then adjust the clubhead till its square. You dont have to just plop the head down and live with how it sets up.

Also I've found that a lot of people play hybrid shafts that are significantly lighter than their iron shafts so it throws their feel off. I was playing a 105g iron shaft and an 88g hybrid shaft. But I've seen guys with 50-60g stock hybrid shafts.

Most hybrids are draw bias unless you get a tour version, pro or players (whatever is labeled for that company)

As dc mentioned.. most have lighter shaft unless you build it or throw in a heavier shaft.

This is one of the big contributors.

City, you realize this is a different club. It's not a wood. It's not an iron. Swing it like a hybrid. Don't over complicate, but also don't over simplify.

Maybe you don't really know what square-square feels like quite as well as you think you do.

Don't be f'n daft. I will swing every club in my bag and tell you where it launched and what it did without looking up. This is a very easy exercise. This is what is maddening about the brid. Same swing. Same feel at impact. Look up, and the ball is swinging like a banana.

In case you missed this part. . .I figured it out by the end of the round. I piped one right down the middle on 8, piped one right down the middle on the second shot. The difference is how much manipulation I had to do to get there. (we played 1-15, then 2-9)

I don't know what to say. I don't have a special hybrid swing. I don't feel like it requires some kind of unique manipulation.

You say you're hitting it with a square path, and face. How is it hooking then? It must be the club design somehow imparting that side spin if you don't think it's your impact conditions, right? But you also say the size and shape of the head doesn't matter.

I didn't see you hit a ton of shots with with 2-iron, but I've seen you hit a few more with the 3-iron. Your ball flight tendency with both of those seems to be a low drawing shot, too.

No, I said it FEELS like I'm hitting it with a square path and square face.

Also, when I hit one low and left with the 3 iron, I know why it's going low and left and I know THAT it is going low and left. That's the difference. My normal corrections to that swing do not work with the hybrid.

I hit 3 shots into hole 7 yesterday. Everyone of them missed left. Give me my 3 iron there, and I'll miss the first one left and then figure out how to correct it.

Given your previous aversions to hybrids, I'm surprised you went with something that has sort of a more traditional hybrid profile.

Something like the Apex might really be the ticket.

http://www.golfwrx.c...__+apex +hybrid

The shape and size of the head isn't the issue. This might not translate in pictures, but it's all I could find. I don't know if I'm supposed to set-up/contact the hybrid like this (square face, but shaft leaning left and forward) . .

reviewaddress.jpg

Or this. . .shaft exiting the frame "straight" but face wide open. . .

Callaway-Apex-Hybrid_0052.jpg

You guys who like hybrids. . .how do you set up/contact the ball?

When I come through like the second one, I hit a 160 yard slice.

When I do the first one, I hit a 225 yard snap hook.

Turns out the WMPO steaker admits alcohol might have played a factor...

And he spent 5 days in jail, AND lost his job.

And, he said it was worth it! He must have HAD a seriously sh!tty job

I googled "[his name] Linkedin" and it came up that someone with his name worked as a server at IHOP in Phoenix, so yeah it was probably fine that he doesn't work there anymore.

Also, if you're a server at IHOP, you likely don't need a linkedin page.

I don't have a special hybrid swing. Well, no more special than any of my other swings. It was cold and totally frozen yesterday. We played 25 holes in less than 4 hours. Walking. I went home and stuffed my butt with Chana Saag and Soft and Chewy Chips Ahoy.

Finished Altered Carbon, too. Enjoyed it. Visuals and concepts were fun. I don't want to give anything away, but it got a little silly for the last episode of 3. Still worth a watch, IMO.

Is your face or your path more to blame for the bad hybrid shots?

What did you "figure out" that you started hitting it straight, but felt highly manipulated?

I was basically doing this. . .holding off the release (and bowing my left wrist) until my hands were past my front leg. If I had any kind of natural release, boom, left.

Seriously this discussion begs people to watch the last episode that Cameron McCormock did.

If the clubface is closed to the swing path at impact its going to hook. There's no magic to it. Its not tour only players exlusive hybrid heads.

I'm aware of the ball flight laws.

I'm aware how to make corrections with my irons. That's basically all I ever work on.

I seem to be completely unable to do it (properly) with the hybo. That's why I resorted to a giant hold-off with a bowed wrist. That is no way to swing a club.

While I am happy in my current position with the IHOP Corporation, I would be willing to move laterally for more money to Denny's or to a more upscale establishment, such as the Cracker Barrel, for more prestige.

But it slices when you set the face slightly open and you release it? Or you just don't release it ever at all?

There's obviously a sweet spot that you just haven't found yet. It's tough for guys to find the sweet spot sometimes. Takes some practice, and a few failed attempts with....hybrids. Each hybrid is different. But once you find the sweet spot on one then it'll be easier to find the sweet spot on the others, and you'll realize that while every hybrid might feel and look a little different, they're all still hybrids.

I have not played a hybrid for a couple of years now, due to the same issues (hook or a worse hook). I've been messing around at the range some since late last fall with the 3h again, as I'd love to be able to use it more coming into long par 3s and the second shots on par 5s. Yet to rediscover the confidence with it that i had about 3 years ago.

I sliced it when I went to a really weak grip and tried to release.

It's not like I can't take extremes and manipulate the club face. I just don't think I should have to get this far away from normal to get to a ZERO-ZERO and I had a wicked double-cross on a shot I was trying to fade. Hit one OB left 40 yards left of a green. Oh, I did that twice actually. One bounced back.

Are you taking divots, or at least getting a healthy brushing of the ground? Or are you sweeping it with only the gentlest disturbance of the turf?

Similar to long irons. I don't take much of a divot with long irons.

I take the same grip, same stance, same swing - no different - and I know I'm hiting it with the clubface a tiny bit open.

Maybe its a shaft issue. You shouldnt have any problem feeling the hybrid clubhead if you are fine doing it with your long irons.

I wonder if that F6 Baffler would work. It's very small fairway sized head. About an inch and a half longer shaft (switch the hybrid and baffler shafts out...see if I care). Has rails. I bet that would solve your problem if you opened it to 18 degrees or so and put the shorter shaft in. I hit my 3w out of the rough a LOT more now than I did before. The head size shouldn't be an issue.

I think it has almost everything to do with the angle the shaft/hosel meet the club head.

Not what the club face looks like. And from what I can tell, the callaway one does not correct that (cf. the pics I posted earlier).
