Ever played Meshingomesia in Marion, Paul? It's an old parkland course with lots of mature trees. Somewhat hilly in places and pretty. A good test.

I have heard of it...looked at it on interweb couple of years ago ..for some reason..looks cool.

Should be able to leave work early enough to do 4:00..check with you and Doc as we get closer to 21st.

Doc...I’ve got to admit...got a little tired of seeing white stakes 5 feet off of the cart paths. Maybe John knows what Winchester or Albany is like. Not too bad coming from New Castle...Tuesday and Fridays are usually good for me...after 3:00 or can leave early sometimes.

 

Played 27 at Winchester a couple of weekends back and each 9 was in very good condition. Always kept very well. I've also played Albany a couple of times this year and it was in good condition as always. Played it after some of the heavy rains and the greens were still like putting on ice. Very receptive, but always roll lightning fast.

Looks like Albany is the closest to BSU's campus if we wanted to do that. Winchester is almost 40 min and Meshingomesia is almost 50. I would have to start after 4 at the latter two on a Friday afternoon.

I'm all for a little closer on Friday round..the Marion course is like 1 1/2 when I go home..although I think John drives pretty far to get to us sometimes..lol. Albany is cool with me if not Mesothielioma ..sic...lol.

I can play Albany for $15 so I'm cool with that.

Price wise...both Marion and Albany are quite reasonable according to their website...distance wise Albany might be better for a Friday, but I'm good either way.

Discussion topic for this week...what are your favorite greens in town? I would say me Sahm gets a slight nod over bear slide. I think bear slide’s greens may be a little more pure, but for the course and the money Sahm has the best greens going.

We had plans to play it yesterday, but the rain has put the kibosh on golfing til the end of next week it would appear.

With all the rain and sunshine this year they ALL should have GREAT greens. I've never played Sahm but Pleasant Run's right there near the top in vale.

 

I played Helfrich in Evansville last week and they actually had crab grass growing in some of their greens. Weird.

I've been meaning to post my recent experience at The Golf Club of Indiana (GCI)...

 

Hadn't played there in 6-8 years and was pleasantly surprised!

BHI has put a ton of money into the clubhouse, Cardinal Room event center and training facility. Course was in great shape and a ton more fun than I remembered. Staff was fantastic. BHI is currently developing around the course so I'm not sure how much longer GCI will remain public.

 

Was talking to a guy this week who got married there a few year ago and he raved about the experience.

 

Cocktails were generous - BBQ was outstanding on their deck area overlooking the course.

How is hickory stick? I am going to be moving 3 minutes from there. The reviews on golf advisor are mixed. I am gonna give it a go and join if it’s in good shape, but I wanted to hear how everyone else feels about the course that has played it.

Killbuck was in solid shape today. Worth a trip if you find yourself in/around Anderson or Muncie. Tricky greens, stay below the hole!

On a positive note: I played hickory stick this week and loved it! It was one of my favorite tracks in the city for sure. Probably has solid top 10 potential.

Enjoyed a nice (but hot) round at Prairie View today. Moving back home to Chicago in a few weeks, trying to play a few more courses in the Indy area. Definitely going to try to play Bear Slide in the next few weeks, may try to play Trophy Club again as well. Should be free next Monday to golf if anyone is interested in playing

Fun times at Albany today. Decent little country course in fairly good shape. Some water damage here and there, but the greens were smooth and quick with some tilt. Wind made it tricky on some holes.

 

Looking ahead the next couple weeks, here are some weekdays that could work for me if anyone wanted to play around Indy as Bob Cat and marmoo and I discussed today. Some Saturdays may work. Otherwise Thursday 9/27 in the afternoon, Tuesday 10/2 in the afternoon, Thursday 10/4 in the afternoon, Monday 10/8 and Tuesday 10/9 all day.

 

Of course these Friday rounds around Muncie starting around 330-345 work as well until we run into darkness issues.
