Golf resort recommendation

Hey guys,

 

Planning to book a golf resort weekend in the spring and looking for some recommendations. I live in the Philly area and am looking for a place within a 2-5 hour drive.

 

Currently seeing Crystal Springs and Baywood as possibilities. Don't need anything other than amazing golf and a decent place to grab a beer and food at night.

 

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Look at Ocean City MD.

Crystal Springs is pretty legit. They have 2 really nice courses (Crystal Springs and Wild Turkey) on site of the main resort along with 2 9-hole tracks, and then their best course is a 5 minute drive down the road (Ballyowen). Black Bear used to be a part of their resort but I'm not sure if it still is. Either way, that's another good option to play that is only about 15-20 minutes away from the resort. I've never gotten food at the lodge there so I can't vouch for its quality, but outside of that there's pretty much nothing else around in that part of NJ.

 

Ocean City is great too, tons of options for golf and a much livelier area in general with many bars and food options. The last few years my buddies and I have gone down in early May and we've gotten really crappy weather each year (rain almost every day, 15-25mph sustained wind gusting even more along the water) so that might taint by opinion a little bit but its still a fun trip.

Fredrick,Md has some great golf courses. I just went down this year and it was great

For a true resort take a look at Williamsburg Virginia. Three good choices (all inclusive - golf, hotel, amenities). Kingsmill Resort (36 holes), Fords Colony (54 holes), Colonial Williamsburg (36 holes). Much closer to home for you is Penn National. Hotel and 36 holes. About 2 hours west of you. Of course if you want to go whole hog go straight down 95 to Pinehurst. A bit out of your driving range (but well worth it if you have the time) they have 9 courses and a new 9 hole executive course of site. Also in the immediate Pinehurst area are about 5 other excellent locations. I've been to every location listed here and they all are excellent and offer decent golf packages.

Pinehurt would be my #1 choice but my wife has been wanting to go there too and this is a boys only trip, so she'd kill me. Plus were aiming for a place we can get to early in the morning from Philly.

Crystal Springs is solid, especially with Ballyowen and Wild Turkey. Ballyowen is always a top 5 public course for NJ. Turning Stone is another option, but it's up around your max distance. Atunyote at Turning Stone is also a top 10 public course for NY, and if you're up for it you could always hit Patriot Hills, Mansion Ridge, Pound Ridge, or Westpoint on the way up or back home.

Great golf course and fantastic hotel/casino.

You may want to put the Seaview Hotel in Galloway on your list of places to consider. Just outside of AC off the Expressway, so an easy ride down from Philly (or Philly burbs).

 

Two courses on the property, both of them making for some enjoyable golf.

 

Atlantic City is a quick jump away for dinner and drinks.

 

Very historic property. The hotel is over 100 years old and the Bay Course is from 1914-15 and the Pines Course 1927-29.

 

I'm sure you're familiar with area, but lots of other options relatively nearby if you're looking to get in a third, including Atlantic City Country Club and Ballamor.
