I found a cheap Cleveland cg black driver on eBay in great shape. Shortened it and regripped it. He is hitting good but seems to be getting to much what I believe is front spin. It going on a good trajectory and dives straight into the ground. Any advice.

It is still cold in Georgia we have hit it on a launch monitor yet

If you're trying to get more carry, first try looking at the shaft it came with - make sure its not too stiff. Also, what leezer said, you could use a higher spin ball softer ball. Regular one-piece range balls just wont give you an accurate feel for the real carry. The cold weather in GA is also probably not helping!! Good news is that as long as trajectory is good a low spin is great for total distance.

For those of you that have gone through a complete fitting process more than once, when did you realize it was time to get refit for new clubs or shafts? My boy had gotten fit in June of last year but has since grown around 3 inches and much much stronger. We also have a pretty full tournament schedule from late May through July so I'm not sure if I should wait it out or do it sooner than later.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Where do you go to get juniors to hit clubs at the correct lengths? Most only have adult or ladies lengths to hit.

We didn’t do that. It’s trial and error, but a ladies flex shaft from most OEMs will have the characteristics you’re looking for. Have it cut down to match US kids length; if they can’t hit it bc the head is too heavy, then probably not strong enough yet or something else is going on with the swing. Kids don’t have the swing speed for optimal spin numbers - loft is your friend. If your OEM club allows it, flatter lie setting is better for kids until they are about 5’6”. If your are having difficulty adjusting lie but want OEM, go with mizunos as they are 1-2* flat off the rack when compared to other OEMs.

How does everyone find the correct lies and do adjustment. When i had to get lies adjusted it's a pain to get it done because I have to drop off and wait a few days for them to adjust the club. The bigger issue is you pay for the whole set to get adjusted. I thought about buying my own loft machine because it would make adjusting for lie a lot easier.

I took my sons set to a guy at a smaller local shop that used to be a club builder for KZG and he did the entire set of irons to exact specs within half an hour. Charged me $5 per club.

edit: we had the correct loft and lie spec sheet from when he had gotten fitted at Cool Clubs.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

I just had my sons wedges done and took all of 15 minutes at a local shop.

Check out Palm Beach Golf Center off of Military Trail. They are pretty good.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.
