Played back 9 at Trilogy at Power Ranch. The putting green scared the crap out of me. Don’t let that fool you, real greens were pretty good, just a bit slow. Fairways and tee boxes were excellent. I had fun walking by myself playing a few balls each hole.

I actually was able to mess around finding out what phone app gps I liked while practicing. 18Birdies is for me. The Golflogix putting maps is way to slow. Just FYI.

I do like this course after playing it sever times.

Played Verrado Founder course yesterday. Living in PV it was kind of a hike out there, but we liked the course. The fairways and greens were in very good condition. Pace of play was ok at 4.5 hrs. I was coming straight from the son's baseball game and didn't get a chance to eat lunch. I wish there was some place there to grab a quick bite since the only option was the sit down grill or wait for the cart girl who didn't get to us until hole 8.

GCU (fka Maryvale) today. Redesign is excellent, but this course is already having a lot of trouble with maintenance. Half of the greens have large sections that are completely dead, some are really sandy too. The bunkering, while visually they are very nice, they have no sand in them and the concrete lining is exposed in many of them. The fairways are nice, just covered with divots everywhere.

How much did they charge you to walk 9 if you don't mind my asking? I've been playing sunday afternoons at Toka to walk and they usually cut me a good deal. Haven't played Trilogy yet though.

Walking and riding is the same price (too much) for 9 holes. $30. I do like the course though and plan on playing 18 next time. I think the summer conditions are very good and great prices in the summer.

I probably have my reputation for repping Toka, but Toka all the way. More enjoyable track and generally in better condition.

Gotcha, I need to get out there, it looks like pretty good shape, but going to Toka around 3pm I basically have the course to myself.

Toka Sticks today. Tee boxes and fairways in good shape, bunkers not good at all and greens were decent. Pretty straight forward layout. Not an overly long course at 6900 from the tips, but the greens are pretty small and have enough slope to kick balls off the sides or backs.

One knock is it feels like a lot of the holes just repeat themselves. I prefer the layouts and condition of Trilogy Power Ranch and Lone Tree better for East Valley "mid range" courses.

Pace of play was good, 3 hours and 50 minutes and the value was good as well, paid $35. Overall it's not a bad track at all, just found the layout a little bland.

Well said DB. I agree with your review about Toka. I also agree Trilogy and Lone Tree are much better layouts. I would say Trilogy, Lone Tree amd Toka in that order.

By the way, Toka should Issue you a protective helmet if you play an afternoon weekend round there. The parallel fairways get dangerous out there.

Cave Creek. A slow 3 hour round as a single in the afternoon - waited on most shots. Conditions very mixed, greens were fair, bunkers may have been the best part, pretty consistent. Fairways with a lot of bare patches, rough very patchy and inconsistent. Overall conditions very firm which was fun, able to play to play a lot of low bouncing shots, and got a lot of roll out - I normally struggle over 6300, but I was able to play from the 6700 tips with no issues. $40 without the City card.

Southern Dunes. The whole course is baked a bit, not badly, and not affecting play, except in a good way with nice firm conditions. Bunkers were as good as I have seen them, greens a little bumpy but not much.

4:45 was slow, with no ranger until the very end of the round. $80 on Teeoff saved $20 or so off the rates on the SD website.

Man, I love that course.

I'll be playing Viewpoint (Mesa) 1st time this season since several rounds last summer. Around 12:37pm tee time - all their books seem very open & $ friendly now that the 'birds have flew the coupe & went North!

Only 3mi. from the house and usually decent shape for a middlin' GC - gonna use the driving cart today to play quicker as one of my vehicles is in the shop for tune-up and other items.
