Push Carts for 10 year old

Hello all. I'm new to this forum and looking for some help on push cart selection. I've been working with my 10 year old son on his game. I thought it would be good for him to have some competition so he will be playing a local mini-tour this weekend. After watching a match two weekends ago it appears that the competitors in his age group all use push carts. I had contemplated buying him a push cart last year but I assumed that I would caddie and it would not be required. In the meantime, I managed to break my leg after Christmas this past year so my ability to caddie and carry his bag has been put on hold for the moment and the push cart is back in the picture. Any recommendations would be great. He is short for his age and probably has average strength. He is currently using a Cobra Junior set (5-8) so the bag is small also. I was hoping to find something he can use now but also transition to his next set of clubs. I've looked at Sun Mountain, Clicgear, etc. but the reviews seem mixed to me. Thanks in advance..

Clic Gears are the way to go and they last forever. The added accessories on them are awesome. More and more boy's are starting to push at all ages and I think it is a great thing. You will need to take a deflated volleyball or soccer ball and put it on the bottom to get his clubs to sit right. Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Thanks. The RV3J junior cart or should I go with the 3.5 or 8.0?

I wouldn't do the Rovic. I would go with 3.5 or 8.0. We have a 3.0 I think. My daughter is in college and has had hers for 6 years.

Any advantages/disadvantages between the 3 wheeled version and 4 wheeled version? I'm assuming stability is better with the 4 wheeled version. Thanks again in advance.

Someone else will have to answer this. Have only owned the 3 Wheel versions.

We have the BagBoy Quad XL but ClicGear stuff looks great also. BagBoy I have is 4-wheel. I doubt you can go wrong with either. I have a small cardboard box 6x8x4" I put at the base. The box is filled with other cardboard to give it some weight. As others have stated, you do have to make sure you keep some weight near the bottom. One day, I am going to open my my little box I taped together and fill it with old junky golf balls to get more weight down there.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

I have two of the clic gear 3.5 model. One for each of my kids. I like the 3 wheel version better but i see kids with the 4 wheel version as well. Have him check out both and see what he likes better. Clic gear has the best accessories and that is the big selling point for them. My kids both have an adult stand bag and that fits the best on push carts. As Heavy said, you just need to put something in the bottom of the bag to keep the clubs from falling down inside the bag. My kids have the seat, cooler bag, and adjustable umbrella holder. I bought the carry bag that you can store everything in and this helps protect it and keep everything together.

I bought my daughter a Clicgear 3.5 about 2 years ago when she was 8. It was a bit big for a US Kids Golf junior bag but also something she can grow into. I looked at the smaller ones more suited for the smaller bags for the short term but couldn't justify paying that much money for something she would outgrow in short order. I got a block extension for the stand where the bag sits on the cart. She has never had a single issue with it becoming "top heavy" nor had issue with the bag staying in place.

She is, however, outgrowing her current set of clubs. She has asked for a full size bag when she gets a new set. I will probably go that route when that time comes.

My daughter is 10 and has been playing on the local US Kids tour for a year. I got her a women's Sun Mountain bag last year and she is able to carry it around when we practice at our course. If we are playing actual holes, then I bring the push cart. My son had the US Kids bag and I was constantly trying to find ways to keep that on the push cart. With the regular sized bag, I had no issues at all. You just need to put something in the bottom of the bag so the clubs won't fall down in there. I've heard of people using a ball, pool noodle pieces, etc.

8.0 is 22 lbs. 3.5+ is 19.5 lbs. (Google search)

Add the 20-30 lb clubs/bag and your kid is pushing ~50 lbs/day of the tourney.

Our leagues are no parents on course. Personally, from three years of walking scoring and shuttling between holes that are a long walk, the 8.0 is more cumbersome. The three-day, summer tourneys are tough.

4 wheels on the ground vs 3 wheels=Bigger footprint-more stability, but, also more resistance; especially in wet weather. I’ve seen younger/smaller kids really struggle with the 8.0.

We have a 3.0 and 3.5+. Lots of options. I just replaced some parts after five years of 1-3 walking rounds/week. Quick shipping and reasonable costs. I vouche for the Clicgear?.

My son has a Caddytek Caddylite EZ and LOVES it. The included integrated cooler is a very nice touch. I use a Clicgear 3.5 and I like his cart equally. It has gone through a season of PGA Junior League and two USKids Local Tours as well as more practice rounds than I can count and has zero issues. It is quite a bit cheaper than a Clicgear, particularly with the integrated cooler. To help with the smaller bag this is a trick I did. Go to Walmart and get styrofoam blocks and cut them to the size you need. Then wrap them in black duct tape and use that at the bottom to raise the bag height. It blends in with the cart perfectly. You can see both our carts in the pic below.

Heavy that is indeed him! He is very old school to be 8. He only walks courses (refuses to ride in a cart unless absolutely mandatory), wears the classic style hat at all times (he has 4 of them now), and is very big on etiquette and treating the game a certain way. He loves to watch shows about the old golfers (Sarazen, Palmer, Jones, etc.) He was Bobby Jones for Halloween this year!

That is great. My son will wear the old school hat but that is about it. He has the white Cobra Dechambeau hat and wants a few a more.

Mine swears he is rocking the knickers for a Jr. League match with color coordinated socks. I fully encourage that decision.

I feel like I've seen your boy on IG before.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

You may have! My wife posts a little and I post a little but not much. A couple of our posts have been retweeted/shared by some of the big accounts. He definitely does not have his own as we see that as a bit ridiculous. (Not a commentary on anyone else just our own opinion that he doesn't need a social media presence at 8 years old.)
