What's the point of that milled out section of the club?

Maybe that's where the badge will go for production? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this won't be a utility club and Ping will actually make a full set of these irons. Furthermore, I'm just going to randomly throw out a name, the i500. I could be wrong, have been plenty of times in the past.

Theres another thread in here speculating that this is the new I500 irons and the part that is milled out is the i500 badging.

That’s probably also true but it looks like that screw is in the same area of the club head. So there’s definitely weight being moved in some capacity but I don’t know how much can be moved and how much effect it can really have.

This is the kind of crap you get when people start creating multiple threads for the same thing. Hopefully mods will merge this one with the original thread to stop the shenanigans.

My thought exactly. Seems pretty thin for a utility iron.

 

Now if this happens to be a replacement for the iblade then these will be hot! I wonder if the screw on the toe means Ping is tinkering with a filled cavity?

Well i heard ping might be coming out with an i500 iron so I might start a thread about that.

i500 not coming out after all. You can order it but release date not until February 2019...Might just sell the 3 iron to test the waters..

I imagine it's either been milled out to remove the model number before an official announcement or they're going to pop a little medallion in there with the model number. I doubt it has anything to do with the clubs performance. I think the screw is to fine-tune club and swing weight at the factory, they can add more hot melt or propriety Ping Goo™ to dial the heads in.

correct. i saw one today with i500 hard stamped into the head. this has been milled out to protect identity.

 

Definitely coming out this july
