Installing a SuperStroke Putter Grip

So last night I was re-gripping my spider tour and had a heck of a time getting the grip over the butt end of the shaft. The first time I slipped it over and got stuck half way on. The second time it took about 30 seconds to get the inner core over the shaft and it took some force to get it on all the way but finally got it. It seems as if the inside rubber of the grip is not as flexible as other grips. I’m using the solvent and tape from Golf Works and used a ton of it both times. Has anyone else had issues getting super strokes installed?

I regrip my own putters and clubs as well. I never had problems installing Superstroke putter grips. I have a harder time putting on brand new multi-compound decade grip on my irons.

I’ve used the GW tape and solvent with no issues. But others have had issues. You might want to get some Brampton solvent. It always works.

I blow mine on. Normally a wrap of painters tape on the shaft. A small drop of bramptons in the mouth only to help slide it on. Hairspray on the tape. Normally blows straight on. Just be ready to adjust quickly before hairspray dries.

Biggest problem I see is that most do not remove the sharp edge on the butt of the club. A little sanding to give you a smooth edge and you won’t have the binding problem.

I have a problem with them as well and I blow them on...they are tricky and i really haven’t found anything that works consistently...except patience...

I find Superstrokes some of the easiest grips to install because of their stiffness. You'll hardly have any problems with them twisting on the way down and the stiffness makes aligning theme easy as well. Just make sure you're using a good putter clamp to hold the putter, a lot of lube..whatever brand you usually use and slide it on. As said the biggest problem you may encounter is getting it over the butt as there has been a few I've installed that got a little stuck at the top. Just make sure the top of the shaft is cut straight..not all manufactures cut them straight and make sure there are no burrs to hang up on the inside fo the grip. Making sure the grip tape goes over the butt helps. Try to do it in one motion as well. if you stop half way there's a good chance you'll get stuck.

I let the tape overhang about 1/4 inch then fold it over the shaft opening. I make sure to really wet that part of tape. This ensures that the grip easily slides over the wet tape on the end of the club and doesn’t get hung up on the sharp edge of shaft opening.

Ive had the same problem. Just need to use a lot more solvent than usual.

I was having the same problem last year installing SS grips and found that you need to overly use solvent in order to get the grips on correctly. The newer SS grips are much easier now that they have gone to a true rubber under listing. The foam on the older versions were a pain in the a%#!

I agree with everyone here regarding solvent. Also I found that I had to be super careful not to get the solvent on the grip because it made it a lot harder to push through. Also, has anyone noticed that the Superstroke grip retains the solvent a bit too much?

Put a tee in the hole at the end of the grip, and soak the inside of it with solvent. Put solvent on the shaft and it should go on.
