Scotland trip off to bad start

Flew in yesterday. Bags did not show up. Had to rent clubs to play Western Gailes. Bags did not show up again this morning. Renting clubs to play Turnberry. Do not fly American Airlines.

Sorry to hear. That is definitely a bummer and I'm sure extremely frustrating but still have to try to enjoy the courses.

After a trip a couple years ago where mine were late, I wont fly anywhere without a luggage tracker now. They arent free and they arent perfect but its better than nothing.

 

PS - its not just American LOL :)

Ours didn't make the plane change at Amsterdam because the Delta guy in Minneapolis only checked them through to Amsterdam and not all the way to Edinburgh. Dummy. Good news, there were two more flights after ours (clubs made one, two checked bags made a later one) and after a 7 hour wait, we had everything but lost the entire first day we had planned. KLM was good at finding everything in their system, not so good at getting everything on the first available plane and worse at follow up, and communication, it was terrible, but they had us at their mercy and all could do was act patient and feel better by contrast watching people with similar issues not being patient and not getting any better results, only getting mad, lol. Ended up taking a taxi into the middle of town, saw some good stuff, but the castle was closed (of course) because of high winds, just our luck. So we made a little bit of lemonade out of the lemons. After being assured when the golf bags were to arrive they would secure them behind the counter, I was not happy when we got back from downtown and I saw the bags 30-40 feet from the counter out in the middle of everything. Someone had taken them, nobody would have noticed. There was a discussion about that. ;-) In the end, we had all the bags, had time to secure a better ride, had a nice lunch downtown and saw some sights we wouldn't have seen. Did lose photo opportunities/exploring in Glencoe that really didn't make up for, however.

 

Still - glad two of us took ours, but the rental clubs my wife and youngest daughter got at St. Andrews (Callaway) and Royal Dornoch ™ were amazing. Now she wants some new Callaways!

That sucks... always an anxious time watching bags on the carousel waiting for yours to come out.

yeah, that sucks ... i'm heading over next year but am planning on playing some courses in england first, and BA flies direct from atlanta to london, so no baggage change ... glad it all worked out in the end ...

 

i'd still like some information on that luggage tracker thing for my friends who will fly from houston to glasgow, probably ...

Actually, very common especially if you are connecting in UK. Per what i was told in ‘14 when all 8 sets of our groups clubs didn’t arrive. Luckily, we were able to push our tee time back to receive them by day 2. Prior to renting, check with the place you are staying as they may have options to hook you up.

 

I would never take a trip like that again and plan on playing on arrival day. Way too much can go wrong.

yeah, for us...so glad United has the summer non-stop from DC to Edinburgh. If there's no connection, your bags have at least 90% better chance of making the trip.

We also didn't plan golf on day 1...but I know some people want to squeeze in every round possible.
