Through the years, using a factor of 2.5 has worked very well for me in determining swing speeds. For example:

6I = 96
5I = 98.5
4I = 101
3I = 103.5
5W = 106
3W = 108.5
D = 111

In my personal experience back in October, these numbers are an exact match to what the Shaft Optimizer generated.
Explain the math you use for this please. I'd like to know how fast I swing all of my clubs.
Divide your carry distance for a certain club by 2.3 (2.3 is more realistic than 2.5) and that will give you the swing speed. Example: you carry your driver 230 yards, therefore your swing speed is 100 mph.
I don't think that's right......
I don't swing a club 129 MPH.....
But I know my carry distance is correct because I've been on a trackman and used GPS and rangefinders to find out what it is.
I use info from this site:
http://www.calgolfte...w/driver22.html

Here's a paragraph from the reading:
Smash Factor is a little too abstract for most players. I like simple answers. "If I swing at 100 MPH, how far should I hit the ball?".We use the equation:.Carry distance equals swingspeed in miles per hour times 2.3 yards. Even 2.3 yards of carry distance for each MPH of swingspeed is granting the benefit of the doubt. When we measure swing speeds and carry distances on our Achiever launch monitor, we rarely find a player who exceeds 2.2 yards for each mile an hour of swing speed. Here again, misinformation is common. For some reason, players think that they should hit the ball farther than they can. Carry distance is governed by the laws of physics and you can't beat that rap.
Ok. Well. Not doubting you, but let's try this.
This is TRUE distance, measured by trackman and gps and various other things.
If I launch a ball at 14* with 3200 spin and have a carry of 296 with a rollout to 306, what are my ballspeed and swing speed?

Let me attempt to explain myself a bit better. I'm not using a smash factor nor am I dealing with carry. Years ago, an old clubmaker in Sebring, FL told me if I know what my swing speed is with one club (usually a 6 or 5 iron), you can get pretty close (within 2 mph) on your swing speed with every club in the bag. For the example listed I used my known 6-iron swing speed from the Shaft Optimizer and add or subtract 2.5 for each club. I'm sorry if this was confusing but as I said, it's worked very well for me and the folks I've built clubs for. It's not exact but you'll be in the ball park.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Unless your ball plugs in the fairway, how do you use a GPS or range finder to find the carry distance with your driver? Total distance, sure, but there is no way you can pinpoint how far your ball carried when it hits the ground 260+ yards away from you in the fairway with a driver. Trackman I'll give you, but I'd really like to know how you measure it with a GPS and range finder.

That's pretty easy actually. You have to have two people to do it. First, give yourself an HONEST guess of how far you carry it. Tell your friend. Have him run into the fairway at that distance. Hit the ball. Have your friend stand on the EXACT place the ball landed. Shoot him with the rangefinder.
That's the rangefinder one.

The GPS is a little weirder. Your GPS generally marks things like bunkers. Have your friend stand next to this bunker. Hit the ball. Have him walk the distance the ball landed before or after the bunker.

You certainly have nicer friends than I do. My friends would probably tell me to get bent (in not such nice words) if I asked them to do that. lol

I really dont think I would want to hit with them out there anyways, but thanks for the explanation.

My swing speed is 107 avg and I carry about 270.
I call shenanigans.
107 can carry 270 easily if his launch is around 13* and hes spinning at around 260 rpms.

It's all about optimizing launch.

It's real easy. Book a flight to Seattle. Find tee time at any of our munis. Your carry distance = total distance.
