Lots of things I would have changed but for $20, I'm happy.

I spent way more than that at the beer store today so it was worth it.

LOL Phil trying on the "championship belt" and it was nowhere near big enough.

People overstating how bad the golf was on twitter.

I think tiger made 6 birdies on the first 18 holes. Coue of bogies too, but whatever.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Glad to see you're still watery poo free, CJ. Have fun out there.

The putting gate is a fun add to the indoor putting green. It gives something else to measure practice against. Visio is nice enough to give the measurements on theirs, along with different setups and associated start line error.

https://visioputting.com/the-new-putting-gate-pack/

So I've got mine set around 55mm, and measured off 14" on a straight line from my 5' putting dot, for 1 degree error. It's harder than it seems like it should be. I guess that's a good thing, so I've got room for improvement. My best so far yesterday and today is 14 in a row. At first I set a goal to knock 10 in a row through before I could stop. Multiple times I got to 9, and then could feel myself flinch trying to make the 10th, and hit the gate. Derp. I'll probably try to set up another spot on the green around 10' from the hole, to work start line on putts with a little more pace.

What a great Thanksgiving. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. My turkey was very well received. One of my wife’s Aunties was here from India celebrating Thanksgiving for the first time ever, and she raved about the flavor. Good memory.

I have not really been able to post as much these days, but I do enjoy catching up on all the thread hijinks before bed. Makes for interesting conversation with the wife.

“What are you laughing at over there?”

“Well...”

“Is this the golf blog? Are you really reading the golf blog right now?”

“Uh...”

“What did CityGame do now?”

“Do you really want to know?”

“No. Goodnight.” <clicks off nightlight>

“Goodnight.” <continues reading, tries in vain to muffle snickers in pillow>

Was going to try to play today but even though the course was open - it was absolutely soaked. Not worth it. Enjoyed some range time and got some chipping in - more rain tomorrow so this might have been last shorts weather for a while.

Could be an interesting Fried Egg ep this week, might be worth trying to get through.

Snuck in one last decent weather round today. Got City, Bae, and PQ at Waverly.

Bae played well. Some nice approach shots, and man his short game was fantastic. Seemed like he only missed maybe one or two save attempts all day. He put a second putter in the bag at the turn, and cycled it into the bag on the back 9. My man.

City must be making progress on whatever he was working on from his lesson. His ballstriking was solid pretty much all day. Just giving himself lots of chances. Been a really impressive year for him. I feel like he took his game up a step for sure. The man just keeps grinding those strokes off his game, fraction by fraction.

PQ seemed better than average off the tee. He was hitting the D on a bunch of holes, and really stripped it. Some nice fairway woods, and zubs driving irons as well.

I rolled up to the driving range with half my clubs, to find everybody else rocking full kits. No probs, though. Got to really dial in my smooch approaches.

City orchestrated a rotating partner series of 6-hole matches game. PQ wished we played AirWolf. He's the AirWolf savant, but in this game he pretty much drew all of us at the worst time in our rounds as his partner. He was the big loser, with Bae coming out on top.

Good times. I'm definitely playing less bundled up rounds this winter, so I'm really glad we had at least one more real solid day.

I wonder if they cut a deal with Continental. Hey, we will produce the ugliest driver imaginable if you cut us in every time someone sends it to you for a repaint.

I predict for every person that says how ugly it is, at least 25% of those people end up with it in their bags anyway.

Budget Golf has 20% off any one item today, looking at picking up a pair of the Ecco Cage Pros for a little under $100. Really happy with the Eccos I bought last summer.

Yesterday was a nice golf day. I knew late last week that Turf would be closed Sunday after the Saturday forecast. I wasn't the only one. A bunch of guys I play with were out there yesterday, including the group right behind us. We were probably one of the final 3 groups to finish before dark.

We did 6-6-6 with junk. Started right out with Fabb and I hitting them close on 1, and Fabb sinking.

2 of us bogeyed to a front pin on 3 with wedges, but Q and Fabb birdied 4 (all 4 of us had inside 20 feet for bird on that hole). Bae CTP'ed 5 chipped in on 6 for bird, taking Q and I out 2 up and down 3 junks for a fiver.

Then it was Q and Bae and Fabb CTP's 7 to pile on Q, but then shot of the day candidate(*). . .Bae from 180 on 9 into the wind, front pin, hits one to 2 feet and makes it. Awesome shot.

I think Bae was even on the front. . .bogeyed 2 & 3 and had 2 birds.

After that bird on 9, I sunk about a 90 footer for bird on 10 and Fabb birds right on top of it. Fabb, Q and I all have about 12 feet for bird on 11, but all miss, then Bae U/D's 12 while I miss from about 12 feet and the junk equals the bet and that's a push.

Then it got uggs for Fabb & Q.

After Fabb rolls one right past the pin on 13, I get inside for CTP.

Then the REAL shot of the day. . .Bae hits one to about 4 feet to a pin on the back shelf of 14 from 200 yards from the rough and sinks it. Then, Bae CTPs 15, and I roll in a 20 foot PLINKO on 16 for another dot.

17 was funny. . .that's one of the trickiest driving holes around and we all just pipe one right down the gut that kicks a little right and stays in the fairway. There were 4 balls in a row over about 10 feet. From away to close. . .Fabb (b1tch), Me, PQ (3W), Bae (Do you guys know he's surprisingly strong for a tiny guy. I saw him with his shirt off one day and he basically looks like one of those creepy 6 year old body builders that used to go viral on the internet.). I said to the guys, "the guys waiting on the tee must think we're playing a scramble". Seriously, we were all right on top of each other.

Day finished with a very skillful sandy from yours truly, and a routine birdie from Fabb (after he borrowed my spoon) to square the dots on 18 but put Bae and I up 4(!) junk.

Waverly greens were weird. Mostly good, a couple great, but the bad ones were baaaaad. Otherwise, that course is just money condition time after time. You can always trust it. But that's also why you pay $60 after noon on a Sunday in late November.

Also, I played the Oncore Elixir yesterday.

I thought I got those for like $20 per duzz from Global Golf way back when but I notice now they're $33 a duzz. So, I might be wrong about those balls being that cheap.

I think I really like that ball. It's gimmick is that it has a metal-infused mantle, which is supposed to give it better spin properties, or something. But, all I know is that I've played a couple of real nice rounds with it (strong round out at The Woodlands one day, and then yesterday).

I lent one to Fabb on 16 and he proceeded to jack it right down the cart path and put a scuff in it. He deemed that ball unplayable after that. It was not. I now have an idea of the extent of his anal-ness on a golf ball.

Final note : more data on hole 12. Only one guy had a birdie putt and that was the guy who took it to the lower level and didn't lay up off the tee. I seriously don't understand people's behavior on that hole. It is complete nonsense to lay up to 150. PQ missed his target by about 2 yards and had a hanging lie he left short. Fabb was trying to get one close to a pin that was 2 yards on from 150 and Bae, well, Bae parred, but Bae's up and down game was on and strong yesterday.

The approaches on 9 and 14 from Bae were superb. Both long irons to kick-in range.

The Oncore didn't just have a scuff. It had a small "hole" int he cover. It was definitely enough to take it out of the rota. That said, I'm most definitely excessively picky about golf balls.

City's sandie on 18, while totally within the bounds of the definition we set, was grimy. He got into the front bunker in 2, blasted on, and 2-putted for the sandie.

I always took a sandie to mean any time you make par or better on a hole having been in a bunker.

Seems legit to me.

The metal core golf ball though, thats a hard pass.

I think it was PQ who finally convinced me to bang it down to the bottom (heh) on #12 at WW. Im not sure Ive ever seen him lay up there.

That choice has become a no brainer for me. The area where you can lay up to an okay distance and still have a decent lie is tiny.

That's odd. Are you sure it was't me?

PQ always used to lay up to 150 (at least that's a wedge for him).

Yesterday, he tried getting to A+ position. A+ position being about a 220 shot down the left side that is 120 out from a flat lie, green height. Problem is, you miss a bit right and you have a sidehiller. You miss left and you're blocked or lost.

It's not an easy shot from down below. You can get in a divot. It's often wet down there. The green is about 10 feet above your head. But, anyone who feels confident about sticking an 8 iron from a side hill lie, 150 out, should feel pretty good about any 95 yard wedge shot.

I know some here have been following and hoping for NPS to do the right thing and find the right partner to reinvest some love in EP, Langston, and Rock Creek. Thought this was a really cool post from Michael Martin on IG, showing some original photos and routing of part of EP. Some amazing bunkering and aethestics. I really think they could make that facilty the Bethpage of the Mid-Atlantic if they could restore it to what it once was. I am sure it would mean a hike in fees but I'd pay a little more to see it as Travis intended
