It's F'ing cold. I am bored AF. Time to crank up the fireplace (gas fireplace) and start drinking bourbon. I'm thinking of hitting the Col. EH Taylor tonight.

 

Cracked open some High West + ginger ale. It's working well!

 

Plus I roasted a whole chicken with some dry brined crust and herb butter under the skin. And learned that spatchcocking is the best word.

Turned to see the planets this morning when I left the house but too cloudy. Then it started snow-downbursting about 15 minutes ago. Kind of let up already but almost another quick coating in @ 20 minutes.

Apparently, Peter Jackson is going to be at the 7:00 PM showing. Senator Theater in Baltimore. Big old school movie theater.

A couple of years ago, we got a good snow fall about 10 days -- IIRC -- before the Vernal equinoxious. There was still snow on the ground the week leading up to it, but it was starting to melt and temps were rising a little, but it was going to be touch and go. It was totally up in the air for days.

 

This is becoming reminiscent of that. Except at least this isn't an "official" event and all the pay is "day of".

 

We'll see. We're getting flurries and maybe 2 niches in Baltimore, but I don't know what it's doing down there.

BTW I also realized when watching the Waste Mgmt last night what the GC crew was talking about when they said the tournament has gotten too big. The whole shtick on 16-18 seems to have gotten...old for me I guess. Granted I *am* old but its just hard to watch after a while. It was fun when it was "just" the 16th hole. But I actually found myself enjoying the coverage of guys that finished on the front nine because it was a little more relaxed.

 

A couple of the crew that was there said that in walking around they hope that they cap ticket sales eventually because they are surprised "something serious" hasnt happened yet. I took that to mean someone dying just in the way they described the tight walking spaces that are packed with people, cant move or walk anywhere etc. But they pretty much seemed to agree that the tournament directors are all trying to outdo each other with more and more ticket sales, so they dont see that happening.

 

I was supposed to play a match tomorrow afternoon that already got cancelled. With the snow and temps well below freezing until tomorrow afternoon, it apparently wasnt happening. Sucks because it looks like Su-W next week will be a good run of temps.

Surprised nothing has happened yet. At first I thought Chamblee was just doing his 'old man yells at cloud' bit. But then I realized he is probably more right than wrong. They basically sell/promote this event as a big drunkfest. They post pics/laugh on Twitter about how much beer is being bought. Gotta figure you can only go so long and pack so many people in there before something happens.

 

I know we've had guys here play that course, is it a fun track/worth the money?

Guys - A golf course is the exact opposite of a confined space. It's literally an open space.

Joined the Caddytek Mafia last night. As befitting the cheapskate I am, I bought the cheapest version through Ebay. I am not totally convinced this is the genuine article though, there appear to be some samll differences.

I like that this tournament is different with a jazzed up atmosphere. The game of golf is too stuck up to begin with, so of course people dislike it when people are out there having a good time and cheering their butts off.

 

When there's alcohol, it's a no brainer there's going to be idiots. Chamblee isn't exactly coming out with breaking news here.

And so what if there is.

 

I bet there's already been fist fights and alcohol poisoning and whatever and they've just kept it under wraps. Lots of festivals and whatnot in this world just let people cut loose and part of the price is a little illegal behavior.

 

Now, of course, I don't want there to be a stampede in a tight space and have people die. That kind of risk has to be mitigated.

 

I know that "getting older" is supposed to have the opposite effect, but I actually find myself becoming dangerously tolerant of things as time goes by. After 47 years, I'm just starting to recognize that irresponsible crazies have brought me a lot more joy over the course of my life than whatever you want to call the opposite of that.

Maybe Tobacco Road does? I'm not opposed to walking there. Not sure if others want to or not. I'm not "bringing" my push cart for the trip, but by default, it's always in my trunk. So I'll have it with me anyway.

In the spirit of "drunk people at the WM Open" - this guy is a fixture around PGA Tour events, and fundraisers players do. I saw him at the event I went to in Pinehurst a couple years ago. He was very entertaining.

Probably not the best, I agree. But they do advertise a caddie program, so people apparently do walk it.

 

If it's CPO, probably just as fine to walk it.

Just to confirm, that means Mid Pines- I can walk and use my cart?

 

I was actually looking forward to walking Tobacco Road- a 7 hour car ride there in the early AM, I would've like to have walked that for some excersise and stretch the legs. I see on Walking Golfer its rated yellow for not an easy walk, but I would've given it a go if I was able.
