Ah I always thought the 588 meant the month and year it was designed, May 1988. 900, September 2000.

That is what Roger Cleveland told me.

On Monday, I picked up a 1961 Dynapower SW in quite good shape with the original black/red wrap leather grip for $10. It is far better out of the rough and sand than my Cleveland RTX 4 SW. I will regrip it with a Super Stroke Tech midsize.

So, what I did was drop my PXG 0211 6-iron with 22* of loft, weakened. my Cobra King Tech four hybrid to 22.5*, and now carry both the SWs.  The Cleveland for the fairway and good lie shots around the green and the Dynapower for rough and sand play.

My wedges are now 42*, 46*, 50*, 55*, 56* and 59*. 😲

The new 6-wedge setup!

I do find the older wedges better in heavy rough and sand. I think it's simply the extra weight they have that helps power the head through the grass/sand.

I stumbled across these a week ago and had to have them knowing very little about them.

A month ago I had a couple 60’s Wilson wedges bent to 54 and 58 to use with all vintage sets.

Pics compared to the 60’s set I’ve been using

Perfect progression from a 50 degree wedge. Extra bounce added on SW hasn’t been an issue as of yet.

Interesting pre fluid feel plug. Shorter heal to toe and thicker rounded sole. Can see how much they adjusted the sole thickness over possibly a 10 year period. TT Rocket shafts and original leather grips. Dual has a reminder grip. My 1954 Top Flite’s have this TT Rocket shaft so wonder how old these are? There’s enough of a Sure-Out type rounded sole on them I’m not sure if I’ll bend these to 54 and 58. Couple of my 1950’s sets only go to 9 irons so maybe the original lofts could space out perfectly with those sets? My protractor app shows about 52 for Dual and 55 for Sand ballpark.

The "harmonized" line of Wilson wedges were their sporting goods store line. The red and blue flag grip cap was early 60s I think. The other is older.

My Sandy Andy is worth $20 maybe $30 on a better day. Sticking it this close from 50 yards the fairway to clean up the birdie = PRICELESS.  With my 54 or 56 regular shape sole clubs, I tend to over spin things and lose distance control after its just a chip, the Sandy Andy whatever it's spin may be I have great feel with. One of the best clubs ever made imo

Well Rex, since you haven't posted in about 4 years, I pray that you are still with us.

I finally found the rare cousin that you mentioned...a 1958 Walter Hagen "HAIG ultra POWER" 11 iron with frosted vertical face scoring lines.

Not a Wilson Staff SW, but I've always regretted selling my bronze "Sandy Andy".

Beryllium Copper? They made them in such.
