Question of PING iron players about the i20

I had a set of i5s as my 'never going to give them up set' that was eventually replaced by the G25s.

 

I was REALLY close to buying a set of i20s. I loved everything about them, but held off because the first sets had problems with the finish peeling.

 

I never liked the I25s (felt harsher and shorter) or the IE's. I pretty much stuck with the G25s (save a short dalliance with mizuno jpx ex forged). But I always had a soft spot for the i20s. So much so that I'm considering taking a flier on a used set. But how do the i200s compare. Rather than get an iron even older than my 5+ year old G25s, I wonder if I can get the same magic with a later PING offering...

i200's use a softer stainless so the impact feel is softer.

I was not a fan of i200. The i20s were the last good set of irons ping made imo until the i210 and i500. The i20s are a set I would consider getting as a back up set.

 

To me the i20s check the boxes of looks, feel, sound, performance

I would try the i E1’s again. I absolutely loved the i20’s but the amount of offset and feel of the longer irons left a lot to be desired. E1’s much better looking and feeling in the 4-6 iron than i20. I will say the i20 short irons are tough to beat.

I second his opinion....although still think i210’s do feel better not sure that they are quite as forgiving as ie1’s though

I just got my hands on some i200s, and just before that tried out some i25s. I never got along with the i20s and really wanted to, I don't know why. The i25s were gorgeous to my eye but they were about a club and a half shorter than anything else I have been trying lately. It was just too much to make up. The i200 short irons do not look that much different to me than the i25s and feel nice, the whole set does. I tested 6i to 6i last week, i200 (non power spec) vs 6i S55 and really could not find much performance distance, the i200 added maybe a touch more forgiveness but it wasn't enough for me to really commit to them vs the S55 right now. I do think the i200/210 are an upgrade over the older i series, no doubt, but the finish does show some weird swirling here and there. It's not like it's peeling off, just looked a little blemished. It's been said this wears away with some play, but I do not know if I am going to hold onto my set long enough to find out if the S55s suit me better, but the i200 are really good irons, too.

I20 have been in the bag since new. Purchased a 2nd set a year later for backup. Now one is a “winter set”, etc.

Transitioning over to graphite this winter and will probably stay with the i20 lineup.

Only other iron to catch my eye is the iE1 so far. Ping irons just find greens.

The i20s were great as were the i25s.

 

I know some say the i25 were short, but I wonder if it was the shaft/loft. I had my i25s adjusted to loft specs of the i200 and tested them against i200 and i210 with the exact same shaft. Basically the exact same results. The newer irons felt slightly better and the i210 look great, but that was the only difference.

Just goes to show you how individual clubs are. I tested both i200 and i210 and preferred the i200. I did not think the i210 was any softer despite the marketing, I don't like the looks as much, they are more expensive, and they spin less. I'm a lower spin player and the i200 gives me spot on perfect numbers. It's a great club and you can get them for a good price now.

I'm no ball striking machine, but I really didn't see a whole lot of difference between any of them. I have not hit the i210 yet though. I loved my i200s, maybe the longer irons spun too much, but I don't remember them being much different than my i20s.

I play i20’s. Have since 2012. I’ve tested them against the iE1, and the i200’s. My preference is the i20. They work just fine. Consistent distance, nice feel for me. Have not hit mine against the i210’s or i500. I do like the look of both of them though.

i20's since 2012. Tried every PING iron released since and nothing could move them out of the bag. I haven't tried i210 yet, but frankly I don't really NEED new irons -- still hit the i20's great and they are very forgiving. Can highly recommend them even still.
