Cobra F9 Driver Weight

you'll want to add some weight to the head if you choke up on the grip to simulate a shorter club.

get some lead tape and experiment with head weight at the shorter simulated length

Can someone help with my observations while modifying my F9 to 44 3/4" playing lenght:

1. cutting down a 45.5" driver is harder than cutting down and balancing 45" driver.

2. counter balanced shafts are hard to balance at shorter lenghts.

3. going from cobra's 58 grams grip to a tour velvet 48 grams is 2 swing weights heavier.

4. playing the heavy weight at the back gives you a heavier swing weight.

5. playing the setting at its lowest loft = flattest lie also gives me a heavier swing weight.

6.@ 45.5" atmos black 6 = D3

@ 44.5" atmos black 6 = - 6 SW

@ 44.5" atmos black 6 w/49 gram grip gives should give me near D0 but when i change the 2 gram weight with a 6 gram to make it more like D2 it feels much heavier than that.

so i took out the atmos and put in the smoke to play at 44 3/4" thinking it will be less trouble to figure out and it still feels head heavier than it should at D1 with a 4 gram weight at the back.

Can anyone educate me.

@staysober for golf A good place to start is here: https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/44071/swing-weight-factors-in-relation-to-parts/p1
1/2" = 3 swing weight points. 2 gr club head weight = 1 swing weight point. 5 gr grip = 1 swing weight point. 9 gr shaft weight differences = 1 swing weight point. 4* flatter lie or more up right lie = increase or decrease 1 swing weight point
"1. cutting down a 45.5" driver is harder than cutting down and balancing 45" driver." You are are cutting more off the shaft and changing the SW an additional 3 points.
"2. counter balanced shafts are hard to balance at shorter lenghts." A counter balanced shaft will require more weight in the head to offset the added weight in the butt section.
"3. going from cobra's 58 grams grip to a tour velvet 48 grams is 2 swing weights heavier." -10 gram change in grip weight = +2 SW points. You are removing counterbalancing weight in the handle, making the head relatively heavier.
"4. playing the heavy weight at the back gives you a heavier swing weight." Not sure about this one
"5. playing the setting at its lowest loft = flattest lie also gives me a heavier swing weight." Flattest setting will move weight further down the club. An adjustable driver adapter will be moving lie angle max 2*, so not a significant change. As a side note, stock loft on Cobra adapters is the flattest setting. Every other position is more upright, including the lowest loft setting "-1.5*
"6.@ 45.5" atmos black 6 = D3 @ 44.5" atmos black 6 = - 6 SW" One inch = 6 SW points.
"@ 44.5" atmos black 6 w/49 gram grip gives should give me near D0 but when i change the 2 gram weight with a 6 gram to make it more like D2 it feels much heavier than that." Dont forget about total weight! If you cut an inch off your shaft, add weight to the head to get SW correct, you now have a heavier club even though SW is the same. Measure both clubs on a standard scale.

59 yrs old and not as strong as I used to be.

For my F9 - cut the butt to a total of 44.5 inches with Arcos removed. New Golf Pride midsized grip half cord. Then replaced the original 2gr front/14 grams back with 6 gram front and 14 grams back plus a tiny 1gram Lead on the hosel sIde. Feels fine at a total of 332 grams with my best calculation of SW at C9-DO ( dont have a meter but i have tested a SW calculator against an actual SW Scale. ) . I note Ricky Fowlers very light Driver configuration on his speedzone is 44.5 inches, 14 grams front and 2 grams at the back -nice and simple.

hi Gang

just a silly question but I caved my Fly-z whixh I loved and got a F9. The FlyZ had 14 grams in the back and total weight was around 201 @44.5.

I figured with the same shaft by adding weight to the back for the F9 to get it to the same weight the club and frequencied the same it would behave similar. Unfortunately I was pulling every shot and not hitting well at all until in desparation I flipped the heavy weight to the front and instantly started hitting it well. How is it that the extra weight in the back makes it (so) draw biased so much vs extra weight in the Fly Z ?

Thanks Gang....love the driver alot more now....just have to tweak how much weight in the front and back now (heavier in the front still surprises me as the SLDR never worked for me and always thought I will always have more weight in the back)

Thread resurrection. Still gaming mine. Just cut an inch and deleted grip sensor. Went w standard grip. Adjusted head weight by removing 2g and adding 8g. Doesn't equalize the theoretical 7 SW points the mods subtracted, but it feels heavy enough in this configuration for me, and results are good.
