Also while Mickelson is not in ideal position he's better off through 36 then he was at his last major win at Muirfield (5 back T-19) and almost identical position to the last time he was in the final pairing on Sunday at Augusta (3 back T11 thru 36 in 2012)

Since the amateur game lost luster to the dominance of pro golf.

 

Amateur achievements are now a separate discussion. It's why lists have Bobby Jones with 7 now not 13. It's referencing professional majors.

 

If you want to include both you might as well start adding everybody's senior majors. At least the big 3 (US and British Opens and PGA)

 

Amateur majors and senior majors are different discussions.

 

The number that moves the needle are regular professional majors
