Left knee in the backswing

This was me for a long long time. I think the culprit was myself. Once I got the feel and spent some time working on it the problem went away. It was just one of those things where I told myself “don’t do that”

 

I also didn’t understand how the pivot worked. Gaining a better understanding of getting the right hip deeper in my backswing was also helpful regarding the left knee.

 

is the left knee collapse on the backswing problematic in of itself or just a symptom from doing something bad earlier (i.e. flat backswing)?

 

just been experimenting feeling what happens if my left knee collapses vs. not, and it seems like although the left knee collapse happens due to too flat of backswing, it just adds on to make things more difficult in the downswing. i feel like all of my weight (not just pressure) is all stuck on the back foot when my left knee collapses and that's just a recipe for disaster.

For me it was problematic because I didn’t understand how pivot would sway really badly off the ball.  I would sway so much off the ball that it was very easy for my left knee to collapse.
 

One I got a better understanding of the pivot it was much easier to notice and correct.

Left hip externally rotates and right hip internally rotates.  Left leg internal rotation would be “collapse.”

 

Combine with left leg abduction and flexion of left side from the ground up and right leg adduction and extension of right side.

 

Reverse for downswing…with gusto.  Backswing and downswing are conceptually the same but of course not symmetrical in displacement or velocity.

 

This produces double rotation around a horizontal axis and a vertical axis both pretty much coincident in the upper torso.  Trick is getting the two rotations in proper coordination where the initiation of the rotation around horizontal axis precedes initiation of rotation around vertical axis (that is, as they say, shift turn…shift turn, with the hips moving towards the target while they are still rotating “back”).

 

Watch AMG vids and tell me if this is wrong, looks right to me.
