RECAP:LIVE Q&A with COBRA GOLF! Friday, May 10, NOON ET / 9am PT. Bonus Giveaway!

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for a new driver and every time I have been fit it’s been pretty consistent. I am low launch (10-11*) higher spin (2500-3000 rpm depending on driver) with a swingspeed around 102mph, I am a scratch golfer and my miss is typically low on the face. I am currently in a Ping G30 LST 10.5 so I know there is better technology out there but have had trouble finding something I hit better. I haven’t been able to get to a golf shop to hit the F9 (I live in northern Michigan and don’t have a cobra dealer near me) but have heard great things about it. What about the King F9 Speedback is going to help me hit the ball further but just as straight as I do now? Driving accuracy has always been a strength but Like everyone I would like to be longer!

I'm a fan of the Venom Vault and have seen some incredible clubs posted in the past. Any chance we'll see any new creations show up in the near future?

Hello! I am a big Cobra guy just because they make phenomenal clubs that perform as well as any others! My question is what have you been hearing about the fairways from guys on tour, as well as the average golfers? I think a lot of the talk has been about the driver, and rightfully so (it is a beast), but I am curious to hear about the fairway wood feedback! I have the F9 fairway but I am waiting on a shaft so I just think it would be interesting to hear what people are saying about it and the new milled face! I am gaming the F8+ driver and that feel off the face is superb, but I have been curious as to how that transfers over into the fairway! I look forward to hearing more about this hopefully! Thank you for all that you guys do!

I have a Junior looking for a new driver, but he's a pretty strong kid. Right now there is no custom option to cut 2.5 inches from a standard length driver. Is there anything we can do for him other than put him into a junior flex shaft?

DRIVER:  Callaway Rogue ST 10.5

FAIRWAYS:  Callaway Rogue ST 3, 9, 11 Fairway Woods

HYBRIDS:  Callaway Big Bertha 3 Hybrid, Rogue ST 4 Hybrid

IRONS:  Callaway Rogue ST 4-AW

WEDGES:  Callaway Jaws Raw 50 S Grind, 54 S Grind, 58 Z Grind

PUTTER:  Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas

BACKUPS:  Odyssey Toulon Garage Le Mans Tri-Hot 5K Double Wide, MannKrafted Custom, Slighter Custom

BALL:  Testing

A man has to have options!

Cobra,

I was able to borrow my buddy's F9 driver during a buddies trip recently and absolutely LOVE the sound and forgiveness of the driver. Question: The F9 I hit had the Atmos blue stiff shaft. My swing speed is 98-102 mph, and I have average ball flight. Do you think that's the best shaft for me? I would go to a demo and get fit, but there's no demo scheduled for my area (Austin, TX). Thank you.

> What is it about the f9 that you were able to move away from two driver versions in the past like f8 and f8+?

>

> Thanks!

"In the past with F8 and F8+, we had two head shapes to address MOI needs of different players. The F8 was a larger higher MOI head, and the F8+ was a smaller more workable head. In F9, with the introduction of SPEEDBACK technology, we were able to increase the MOI without having to make the heads large from top down address view. This allowed us to create a perfect balance between forgiveness, workability and appearance. We found that high MOI players and better players who preferred workability gravitated to the same head size. Offering different lofts and front back weighting gave us the final adjustments needed to fully meet each players demands. In fact Rickie is playing the 10.5 heads (with MyFly set to 9°) since he loves the way it performs for him.

TB

Additionally, most of the fitters and retailers said that F8 and F8+ were too close in performance and what they really needed was a 'spin-killer' design, so the 9.0 head is purposely designed to provide much lower spin, (about 500 rpm less than F8+) and we are seeing great success with this change. > Hello! I’m blown away by the technology and engineering that goes into making your driver. I also think it’s incredibly innovative to have the milled face on the driver.

> My question is, how difficult is it to keep being creative in a highly populated market? Is it a challenge coming up with different innovations and adjustments year after year? Also, what new concept did you think was going to be groundbreaking that didn’t pan out?

> Sorry- multiple questions ?

"Lots of good questions!

The great thing about what we do is we get to think about golf clubs all day and brainstorm with very bright and creative people. This makes for a very fun and productive workplace and this enables us to bring Innovations every year.

Instead of thinking about things that didn't pan out, we look to opportunities in areas like Baffler Technology, ONE length irons and Cobra Connect powered by Arccos. These are huge benefits to golfers, readily availalbe in the market, and just waiting for golfers to reap the benefits that we have already seen."

We know that the KING F9 Speedback is a great driver and the 9.0 head is a spin killer already. Having our tour players successful is really critical since we have a tight group and Bryson's driver is a great example of how a standard head works for a player needing very low spin performance, so we haven't seen the need for a smaller head. From what we have heard, we think many of these releases are trying to match up against KING F9 Speedback performance!

Does cobra have any plans on offering pro models with the fade/flatter specs us wrxers so desire. Especially in the fairway models. Low spin weight in the front is good, but face angle / lie is important too!

>

>

"The KING LTD Pro is an awesome driver for the few golfers that need this spec. We know if is almost unbeatable in performance, even to this day.

TO

We are constantly tweaking our design lie angles to meet the needs of the population. Look for flatter lie angles in some fairway wood heads in the future!"

Its relatively small, maybe 10% but we do sell a lot of weight online, so we expect some people will do on their own.

> thanks

Yes, the heads our tour players use are made from the exact same tools as the heads you can buy off the shelf! The only difference is how much weight is added or removed for a players swingweight preference. For example Rickie Fowler uses a stock F9 driver head, but has some added weight to accommodate a shorter overall club length.

> With regards to the limits on clubhead design forced upon you by the ruling bodies. Where do you see technology going in the next 5 years? Where can improvements come from?

There are maximum limits placed on face flex and speed generation but most companies only approach those limits in one area on the clubface. By accurately controlling face thickness and design with face milling we can provide a larger sweet spot area. And by adding club shaping features like SPEEDBACK we can give increased forgiveness. Both items aim to expand that zone of max speed generation. In the next 5 years, different technologies and materials will be utilized to further increase that benefit.

>

> My question in though any benefit for irons with the grind same as the trusty rusty wedges (the concave on the back sole). They seem to help a lot on hard tight lies.

"Love the idea! Wish we could bottle his '97 ability as well!

With the high bounce on the wedges the ground contact point is on the back edge of the sole, so the concave area on the back of the sole allows the head to sit lower on tight lies.  With less bounce on the irons the ground contact point is at the center of the sole, so a concavity on the back edge would not allow the head to sit lower to the ground as it does on the wedges.

> I play the F6 Baffler with the heavy weight back. What in the F9 line up would be an upgrade for the Baffler?

The F6 Baffler was the 5 metal that we made for Rickie and the updated version of this size and shape is the KING F9 Speedback Tour fw

> What kind of feedback have you received from amateurs regarding the single length irons? Obviously nobody knows till they try, but do you find low or high handicap players sticking with the single length?

"We have received lots of positive feedback from ONE Length iron players. Overwhelmingly, the feedback is that a consistent setup and swing improves ball striking, reduces practice time necessary, and enhances the game.

TB

Our survey feedback is that players buying ONE length (of all handicaps) are very satisfied and retailers tell us it is the one of the least returned iron sets that they sell."
