Bushnell Phantom.... opinions?

I would take a look at the Golf Buddy Voice 2 as well, works a bit more simple as it will take you directly to the course and hole (shotgun) where the phantom requires you to toggle to the course and hole if you shotgun start. The Voice 2 will clip on your hat or pocket and the Phantom has the magnet, just really depends on your preference. I believe Golf Buddy is known to have a better GPS mapping catalog. Good Luck!

Meant to say.... “I do not wear a watch”. I don’t like anything on my wrist when I swing.

I switched from a Garmin G6 to the Bushnell Phantom for exactly the same reasons. So far I have been very happy with it. I really like the magnetic mount. Since I mostly use a push cart, I made a mount from an old door hinge and screw it into the umbrella mount. The gps sticks really well and the distance is always right in front of me. I still use my laser if I see a pin tucked behind a bunker or near the back of the green, but I mostly just use the gps distance.

I switched from Tour V3 laser to the Phantom. I love the Phantom, so much easier than fumbling with the laser. I'm a 9 HC and iron play isn't my strength. Knowing front/middle/back is more than sufficient, and I take more time to assess the situation than I used to with a laser. I often got in the habit of shooting the flag with the laser, and then grabbing the appropriate iron without considering if I want to err short or long and what those distances are.

The Phantom is also great with the hazard #s, which I always had problems shooting with the laser when I thought to even do it.

I have a G10 and it is fast and accurate. Only thing I don’t like I believe it is to small for clipping it on your belt, it’s small so when I take it off the belt to read it I’m pushing buttons and changing settings. I now clip it on the bill of my cap and pull off my cap and read it. If you don’t wear a cap you can easily drop it in your pocket. Me personally I’m very happy with it.

I have the Phantom and it’s great. No issues and great price. The magnet works well also. I’d recommend it for basic distances.

Was looking for opinions after buying it last week ?

Well I‘ve used it for one round now, here’s what I think:

love the simplicity, mounted it to the handle of my stand bag; I set the bag down by my ball, look at the numbers, make a club choice, take the shottakes a while to locate the course you’re on (1 1/2 minutes of searching seemed long) but no biggieeasy to navigate hazards (cycle through it with one button)- my laser can’t shoot bunker lips properlyseems very accuratei lasered one pin in nine holes and it already bothered me to get the laser out of it’s bagmakes me play golf rather than fiddle around; I ditched using my phone with The Grint because I couldn’t relax and switch off, I look at a screen all day alreadymagnetic clip is pretty firm but wishing it had a proper clip; I’m a little scared of bumping it when shouldering my bag; so far so goodBluetooth to update courses is great and works wellapp looks nice but don’t use itno manual required; well done, Bushnell!shot measuring feature is useful; push button after taking the shot, walk up there, know your distancecharging with USB is better than changing batteriesunfortunately, it can’t be used while charging; in the age of power banks, that’s not so coolworks well with polarized sunglasses numbers are easy to readform factor is great, just rightquality: well, it’s made of plastic; feels ok to me; I’m careful with my stuff, too, and when it falls, it falls on grass anyway ;)So I highly recommend it as a tool for people who want to concentrate on playing golf or as an addition to a laser range finder. I can’t wear a watch so this is optimal for me.

Good job, Bushnell!

Funny I just sold mine but not cause of any issues. It actually worked great and gave me info. Only reason I got rid of it was I was gifted the skycaddie sx500. If it wasn’t for that I would still have it

To answer your last question:

Front/middle/back distances help me make smart decisions, pin hunting is mostly a bad idea for us mid/high handicappers. Laser can’t shoot bunker lips or layup distances. It’s just there, clipped to my bag, showing the numbers. No fumbling with the rangefinder bag strap. Simpler, more relaxing golf. I still use the laser when needed. I actually like using a physical course guide instead of an app with gps. I look at the layout before my next shot and toggle through the hazard distances to check for the good misses. Much more fun than moving around a cursor on my phone screen. But that’s probably just me. When I picked up golf, I used 18 Birdies/The Grint and that’s great, too. But on the course, I’d like a timeout from looking at screens for a minute.
