At a minimum, Muni needs to make a cut. 'Definitely starting on the right foot.

Solo tenth will earn about $38,000; it probably will take $125,000 to be inside top 100.

A solo third, $110,000, will get her closer to the goal line.

'Very nice opening round for Muni at -7 to take the early lead. There are five players a shot back, including Kristen. 'Plenty of golf left to play, but it's a promising start.

I am such a fan of hers but I think I agree. She has such a natural talent for golf too, so it's hard to accept. She has always seemed emotionally fragile. Wish we could see what's going on with her game but she never makes the coverage.

Morning scoring is much better than the afternoon wave. Twelve players are at -5 or better, and only one is in the 2nd wave. Of course that 2nd wave player is 6ix.

Dottie finished -4 which isnt bad for round 1..... Clariss on the other hand, oh well... seems like I'm right to just wait and hope for future Filipina LPGAers instead... Either way, I'm betting on Bianca P in QSchool this year then my bets are on for her... :) Glad to see Porny atop at -8... Happy that LPGA CP open is in my neck of the woods this year :)

Three round tournament is a sprint; but this one is far from over; four players are within 2 shots of the co-leaders and eleven players within 3 shots.

Good day for rookies; not only Lucky 6 is hot, Muni He was incredible and Kristen Gillman had her best round as a pro.

Ariya Jutanugarn won two consecutive starts in July-Aug 2016 and back to back to back in May 2016, Lydia Ko won back to back in March 2016.

Inbee Park may be the last Korean to do it. She won back to back to back in June 2013.

The scores in round 1 were ridiculous. About 1/3rd of the groups on the Bay Course in the pro-am playing as 5-somes with a pro in a scramble format shot -7 or worse. The Bay Course is very short and easy but shooting -8 on your own ball out there is mind boggling let alone to have 5 players shoot -7 or better.

Bronte Law and Lucky 6 played great final rounds at LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship to get into playoffs for their first LPGA win; both lost.

It's uncanny that Bronte promptly won the following week at Kingsmill and Lucky 6 stepped up to win a week later at USWO.

The lesson learned is that many LPGA players are gifted; they win when circumstances allow them to unleash their abundant talent.

The other side of the coin is past reputation and record have become less relevant in this period of rapid changes.

They've always eaten this course up. I think part of it has to do with the 3 round format. As a sprint, they can't play conservatively, so they simply fire away at pins. There doesn't seem to be a lot of defense on many of the greens. The front pin positions are green light specials, as there's no bunkers guarding the front. The greens must be in excellent shape, as we saw a lot of mid and long range putts made. Lastly, the course is likely designed for windy conditions, and there was practically no wind in the morning, and only light winds in the PM.

One surprising thing is that the cut line is probably -2; not low considering many leaders have gone crazily low.

Buried below the cut line is Ariya Jutanugarn at +1.
