Why do you buy new clubs?

I buy more clubs now than ever because I have less time to golf now more than ever.

 

In college, when I could literally play every day, I rarely, _rarely_ ever tinkered with my equipment. Now, work takes up most of the week and I golf once on the weekends. A lot of golf has transitioned to "desk golf". I have learned a lot more about equipment, shafts, etc. over the years and make up new combinations that look great on paper and I go to the course to try them out. It's like the game within the game.

 

However, I've sort of come full-circle with it. Tinkering has gotten somewhat boring. Not much new equipment excites me anymore. I got fit a few years ago for a full bag setup but like a poster said before, the fact that I got fit actually backfired and I ended up compelled to try _everything else under the sun_. But now, years later, I put clubs in my bag on the basis of performance, and they are basically the exact same setup that I had when I got fit years ago. Go figure.

 

Tinkering has had the adverse side-effect of making me not enjoy _playing_ as much. Moving forward I'd like to change that for myself.

Scratch an itch honestly. Keep trying to stop but only make it about 5-6 months and then poof

As my game gets better my tinkering seems to have waned. I have yet to find any woods or hybrids that work better for me than my Ping drivers and XXIO woods / hybrids so I've stuck with those for the last 2 years. In terms of irons, the PXG Gen 2 irons have made me stop looking for other irons for the bag I keep at my club and the Apex CF 19's seem to be doing the same in my away bag. I'm sold on my Seemore putters so the only thing I have left to tinker with is a lob wedge and golf balls.

Like others have said to fill a void in my life. In the past year aside from an entire new bag I've bought 10 putters. Why have I bought 10 putters? No idea, just like collecting and variety and also feel good when I buy something. Rise wash and repeat every new putter.
