Callaway X tour

What shafts are you using?
I don't know if this post belongs in the clubmaking section or here.

I'm interested in hearing some feedback about your experience with the X tours and various shafts. I'm only interested in hands on experience in the X tour irons, not other irons.

What is everyone playing in theirs and do you like it?

Thanks!

Good question....I am interested also. I have X tours and they are being reshafted with Nippon 1050 stiffs. Bought them with S300s and played them all summer, but I have never been a fan of DG's. Just didn't want to take them out of the bag for 2 weeks during the middle of the year. I will give you my opinion of the 1050 when they return.

So far the only shafts i have tried in my x tours are DG S300 and R300, just had a 950 nippon put in a 6 iron and the first impressions are not good, shaft is too soft and lacks feel, sort of makes them feel like im playing with really soft range balls,if you know what i mean. i am going to get it built up a touch stiffer and have the lie adjusted to see if there is an improvement as the soft tip causes alot more shaft droop.

I've just got S300s. Find them quite good in Callaway irons.

The Project X's were wicked smooth when I tried them at the demo day, but the ball flight was incredibly high. I would recomend the stock DG if you hit the ball anything higher than a Medium ball flight.

I have S300's in mine at the moment and I hit them too high. I'm a low ball hitter so this is kinda weird for me

I have X100 in my X-Tour and I seem to like it better than S300 that I had in my previous set of X-Tour. It seems to have lowered my ballflight somewhat.

Finally! I found someone with the same problem I'm having. Normally I'm a pretty mid to low hitter in almost all heads. The S300 DG is my staple shaft and I tend to prefer it almost always as it gives me an excellent trajectory. For some reason, I seem to send the X tours really high with this same combo which is very weird. That's what sparked the initial question.

You're not alone 857 Pro-Ti.

I might end up going with Rifles or PX to see if they're any different. I might even send them back to Callaway to have them bent strong.

So here's what I've tried so far. I've tried project x 6.0. Couldn't really load them consistently so I felt like I was getting inconsistent results. In retrospect after reading all the project x info on this site, I probably should have been trying 5.5's since I'm a 6.0 in the standard rifle line. I still may try that. I tried a set that was bent strong a few degrees with DG S300s. I thought this would help too but it really ended up creating a trajectory that was too boring and didn't peak, so I found it tougher to hold greens in the mid to long irons. I'm currently playing to a tour concept set. Don't have enough time with them yet to give an opinion.

Let me know how you make out, I'd love to hear the feedback.

They can be bent locally. I've had lofts and lies tweaked to my liking. What's weird is that I too had the high ball going on, but only with the p-7 irons. Bent them all 1.5 strong and it has fit into the game perfectly. No gaps anywhere, even though the loft readings would make you think so. Mess

Oh yeah, DG s300 (probably should've got the x-100's)

I have a Joe Kwok blueprinted and installed Tour Concepts. Great combination, and much better than the Callaway installed DGSLs.

I have the tours with dgs300 and rifle 6.0. i like the feel of both, maybe it is just i love the irons. So i will be selling the rifle's as they both feel good. I have heard just as many good reports as bad about the project x shafts. Callaway did make some solid irons.

Also i got the 06 retail catalog from callaway today and no x-tour wedges?????????

Couldn't agree more!! Got my X Tours fitted with rifle flighted 6.0 in the factory as I was told this would "bring down the stupidly high trajectory in the short irons". Well I am not sure about the DG S300s, but I am seriously thinking of selling these clubs, because everything from the 8 iron to wedge goes ridiculously high! I really like the feel and forgiveness, but the general opinion is that n matter what you do, the callaways just go really high. I have to say this is a bit of a mystery to me in a club that is suposedly a "tour" model for players with higher swing speeds. Find it hard to believe these are the same as those played by Mickleson and Campbell.
