3 Wood Distance Issues

Currently having problems with a TM M6 3 Wood at 15*. I put in a first generation Kuro Kage Silver TiNi Shaft, and am having issues getting it to go further than my M6 5 wood at 18*. Wondering if it is possible that something is going wrong with the shaft. The contact seems good on most shots and launches as expected, but I just cannot seem to get my distance. I have always played the 16.5* 3HL and am surprised if the 1.5* loft would make such a difference in lost distance.

No, flight looks good. All goes as expected but just doesn’t carry. Same shaft in both 3 and 5 wood, but 3 wood shaft sometimes feels softer at impact. Could be me thinking’s feels different, but is one thing I noticed. Just don’t wanna switch to another shaft of same model if no chance could change anything.

I would say get on a launch monitor. Sounds like low spin. Do you hit it super far off the tee or once in a awhile off a great lie? Swing weight issues?

Hard to say without knowing anything about you, but it's fairly common for people with moderate swing speeds to hit a 5 wood further than a 3 wood.

 

It's the same concept as irons. For example with my ballflight (lowish) i had this same issue a while back. I was carrying my 4 and 5 iron the same distances on most days. That's why hybrids exist, as many people can't hit a certain iron high enough to maximize carry and it overlaps with the higher lofted one

 

It's possible your launch with the 3 wood is sub optimal

Makes sense, last time I was on a launch monitor was this past winter and my driver Ss is around 108, and 7 iron is around 89-90. I don’t carry a 3 iron for the same reason as the 3 wood issue. I may have to go back to 3HL wood as I was able to carry that further than 5 wood, but the M6 fairway is not offer in 3HL this year so I went with the 3W 15*.

Bout the same off the tee as off the deck, good contact and looks like it will be what I want watching the flight, but falls short on distance. It does feel as heavy during the swing as I feel it should compared to the 5W. The 5 wood setup (same shaft and model head) feels more head heavy when swinging.

id more say it sounds like high spin... I play both the m6 3w and 5w and both are the best fairways I've played. Ive found the 3w to be a monster. my avg SS is also 108, up to 112 if I try going after it

 

like others said, the only way to know is get on a monitor. with a 3w and low spin you should still have some good roll out.... but I would guess maybe the strike isn't as good as it seems and your spinning it too much

Either there is a lack of speed for the 3 wood loft OR enough speed too steeply.

Would 1.5* degrees more by going to 16.5* really fix the speed issue?

 

As in, going that little extra loft allow for slightly less speed and still get full distance?

Without any kind of impact conditions given, it's almost impossible to tell why this is happening. My guess is that you don't generate enough speed and therefore enough spin to keep it in the air long enough to carry past your 5w. That may not be the case but it's the most likely one. Of course, strike can always cause this, too. Too many variables to tell... If you want a real answer, try to go hit on a launch monitor and then come back with the numbers. Hit both the 3w and 5w back to back.

thats very possible given the length of the club, also with the allowances with loft at the manufacturer you could very well have had a 17-18 degree head anyway. But again just hop on a monitor somewhere, it's super common for people to hit high lofted woods better, 15 degrees off the deck is not an easy shot my any means.
