Travel Bag - I Need Opinions QUICK!

Has anyone tried the Ouul Golf - Padded Wheeled Travel Bag Cover? I'm in quick need, and don't see the justification to spend $350+ on a Club Glove or Sun Mountain.

I can get this one for near 1/2 price, any reason to hesitate or totally avoid? Seems kind of "middle of the road" price wise, and I like the way it folds into itself and has a cover that it fits into for long term storage.

 

Sure, I can probably find a similarly priced Club Glove on eBay, but don't have the luxury of time right now.

Club Glove with a stiff arm is the only way to go.

I've never had a problem with a middle of the road travel bag. I take the head off my driver and wrap numerous towels around the other club heads

I have flown numerous times with a cheap Ogio soft case. I think how you pack is more important than the actual bag if you are not traveling a ton. I would always:

 

1. Use a stiff arm

2. Pull the driver head and store separately in the bag in the head cover

3. Head covers on everything (yes, including irons)

4. Wrap towels/outerwear between all shafts so they wouldn't bang around

5. Put a rain hood over it all

 

Seems like overkill, but took no more than 10 minutes to pack the bag from start to finish.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll just go ahead and pull the trigger on the Ouul I posted the link to, or the Ogio Savage. Costco has the Savage for $77 and Rockbottom has the Ouul for $100. I'm kind of leaning towards the Ouul since it folds into itself and has the storage cover that will hopefully come in handy to keep critters out when stored in my garage (although I'm sure the Savage could be folded up and stored in some type of canvas/nylon storage bag to accomplish the same thing).

 

I'll be using a length of PVC pipe with caps on both ends as a stiff arm, and will also put my Driver/3wd shafts inside of it. I'll also wrap some vests/rain gear through the iron heads to keep from rattling around too much (hate to take too many towels, as I always pick up a few of the complementary Blue Striped ones they offer at the hotel pool/gym :). The bag will be packed fairly tightly with 2 pairs of shoes, a couple dozen balls, maybe some strategically placed socks/underwear to help with padding. Driver/3wd heads will either go in carry-on along with rangefinder, or buried inside a pocket of my golf bag in headcovers.

 

I agree that I'm overthinking this, and as long as it's packed properly probably anything would. I'll only be using it once or twice a year, so if the material can hold up to 20 trips, that'll likely last me 10+ years.

 

**Edit** Went back online 5 minutes after posting this, and Rockbottom is offering instant 20% off any order, no coupon code required, through midnight tonight so went ahead and got the Ouul for $80. I'll try to remember to post back after the trip and give a review.

I've had an Ogio mammoth (think thats the model) for 10 years... works well, don't know if thats a current model still. People swear by stiff arms and club protectors but I've never used one and have never had any issues. Knock on wood.

You may check your local Craigslist too. I got a basically brand new Club Glove Collegiate for $45 from some guy on Craigslist.
