I've walked over 950 rounds since retiring 4.5 years ago. I've lost 45 pounds, and continue to trend downward. After 32 years of IT sitting at a computer and eating fast food 5 days a week, the walking has been a godsend. Carry, push, or use an electric cart, it's going to be worthwhile.

IT as well, thanks for the confirmation that I am probably on the right track.  Doubt I'll go the electric cart path.

Holy smokes! You’re walking 20 rounds a month? Wow! You win this thread. 😀

Yeah, I've been retired since November 2019. I've played 970 rounds since then. I walk 95+% of the time. Other than riding on doctor's orders a year ago, the only time I ride is when the course mandates carts, and then I kvetch about it. I've played close to 1300 courses, and have yet to play one that couldn't be walked. 'Not to say that some of them were easy walks, or would be tough, but a few hikes between holes is not going to make a huge difference when you're waiting on the group ahead anyway.

Very impressive!

I quit working about the same time. Wife and I traveled a lot, fished, caught up with long distance relatives.  Didn’t intend to retire, but Covid and the masking bs made that happen. No way I was going back to work wearing a bacteria trap on my face all day. But I digress…

My wife recently committed to playing golf regularly. So we joined a club and we’re walking 9 holes 3x a week. I bought her a Zip and I’m carrying half a set. After a month, we’re ready to add an 18 at least once a week. Losing a little girth. Looking forward to more. I’ll probably end up buying an e cart though.

I think I've decided to buy a push cart and a carry bag. I can carry on some courses and push on others that are more conducive to that. 😄

@Argonne69 would feel right at home with my group up here, we play a lot and we walk the course. All of us play 100+ games in a year, some of us closer to 200, walking 90-95% of the time. The benefits to your health are worth the effort. I personally am recovering from a serious health issue last fall and the road back has been a challenge at 70. I have been back playing for less than 2 months (weather has been a factor) and I played my 27th round yesterday. I have only used a cart a few times on back to back days and now only on the third day after walking two.

I personally play better and feel better when I walk. I have great friends that feel the same way and we play in 3.5 hours or less except when the course is busy.

I added a seat to my ClicGear 8 years ago which comes in handy and gives my bad knee frequent short breaks. I highly recommend it to reduce fatigue.

I should add that our group ranges in age from 62-78.

Question for the walker group - easier to carry clubs or use a push-cart on a semi-hilly course? Flat course the push cart seems to be better, but I find pushing a cart up inclines a bit more taxing than just having the bag on your back.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

For my particular physical attributes, it's hard to imagine a course where carry clubs on my shoulders would be preferable to pushing them on a trolley. And if there were such a course, it would have to be so extreme I wouldn't want to walk it anyway.

I've pushed a three-wheel push cart up and down a few extremely hilly courses. There were none of them I ever thought I'd be better off carrying.

Walk and carry pretty much exclusively and on the few times I've tried a push-cart, felt it was much easier with the bag on my shoulders on the steeper inclines, but gradual inclines the cart was much easier. But then again, my bag is as light as I can get away with - think I weighed it to be just under 10 kgs with everything on a rainy day with food and water and all the jackets/clothes etc.

Most of my buddies that push seem to overload their bags to make them really heavy and if I had to carry their bags, it would be a no brainer with a push cart regardless of the type of course IMO.

Semi-hilly? I'd say a pushcart. On a very hilly course I'd rather carry.

I use a push cart on a very hilly golf course. The inclines can be a bit more taxing, but, you can get use to it.

If you think it is easier on you to carry, it might be. When I was younger, I could carry my bag, no problem. But, as I have gotten older, and, lost a bit of strength, I prefer to use a push cart.

I am on the younger side (34), but my foursome walks nearly every round. Two of us used to use push carts, but our course doesn't allow it, and after getting lightweight bags I don't think I would want to go back - carrying is the way. We occasionally take carts during bigger tournaments (walking back to the clubhouse between matches is just silly). I would say maybe 10% of our membership walks, but that could be off. We do have a caddie program, so some people do walk with a caddie.

They don't allow push carts? Kind of curious as to why they'd not.
