Taylormade Tour Response review

I'm sure they've been talked about here, but used the search function and didn't really see a lot of review posts. I've evolved into a soft urethane afficianado over the last couple of years. Really liked the Project a, and alternated them with Bridgestone RXS's last year. Then I discovered the Wilson Duo Professional. It was definitely the best feeling urethane ball I've played.

Fast forward to this year. I bought the new Bridgestone Tour b RSX's. Didn't like them at all. The feel is much worse than the originals. Performance is somewhat the same, but the feel is harder. Then, bought a sleeve of Tour Response(s). They are definitely an improvement over the Project A. Softer, but not mushy. They do seem to perform better as well. Have only played a couple of rounds, and maybe I'm just swinging well, but they are a little longer, and just feel better than any other Urethane ball I've tried. I'm not a Taylormade guy at all, but have always been partial to their balls. Even when I was younger and playing much better, always preferred their tour balls over anything else.

it's ironic amateurs didn't like the word 'armature' or 'a' in the ball they were using.

Played a round with the TM TR, really liked them. Great feel and performance. Could game these NP!!

Played a round with these and it is a really quality ball. Good alternative if you dont want to shell out premium ball money. Gave a good bit of pop off the irons.

I picked up a 15 pack for $35 yesterday and just got done playing first round with them today alongside V1 and V1X. Also a huge fan of the TP5 line and previous generation RX. I was switching them around and hitting multiple shots.

The TR is definitely longer off the irons but still plenty sticky. Greenside spin was excellent. Honestly I couldn’t tell much difference among them other than the V1X felt noticeably firmer. Which is a good thing because some of the softer urethane balls I have played I haven’t cared for the numb/light/mushy feel off the longer clubs.

These feel great off the irons but not too mushy on the woods. Outstanding ball.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I have an interesting theory on Tp5 Tp5x balls. I was a huge TP Red guy. Played it up until they switched to the 5 piece construction. I’m not a high speed guy. Around 90-95 with the driver. The way the 5 piece balls are designed I think I lose performance with them because of that. For example my 95mph speed produces 140mph ball speed on a solid strike. The 5 piece ball is made to perform optimally off the driver at around 180mph speed. So the 5 piece ball at my speed of 140mph is engineered to perform as if that was a hybrid/long iron shot so it launches higher and spins more in addition to being compressed less. I find 3 piece balls perform much better for me.

You hit it on the money for this review. I have played the Project (a) since it was created and fell in love, especially for the price. Didn’t know they discontinued it until I went to Scheels the other day and say the Tour Response. Instantly had to buy and give them a shot. They are phenomenal. So buttery off the wedges. Felt solid off the driver, I hit the first 12 fairways with these. Would definitely recommend for everyone out there.

TXG did a review of them and they basically slot in between the TP5x and the TP5. More spin than a TP5x less than a TP5. However, the softer compression will rob you of some ball speed and that will become more prevalent the faster you swing. If you're swinging 110 you might lose about 2MPH off a TP5x.
