graphite or steel shafts for iron sets?

I love my Matrix Ozik Programs in my Cobra King forged flow set. Just hit it too high. Not a great fit for me being a high spin player to begin with. If you’re a fit for them and you can afford it, they do have a nice feel. Gotta get used to the different “load” feeling though.

I have moved out of my house and currently waiting on the closing of the new one, so all my stuff is in storage including my book with all my data. IIRC, the raw uncut shafts were pretty close, within a gram or so. I used the heaviest on the shortest club to try to lessen the difference, but still had to resort to some lead tape to get some where I wanted them. I am also used to CW shafts which I have in all my other clubs and rarely have issues getting them right.

In regards to damping benefits of graphite: do damping inserts put into the butt of steel shafts really absorb that much vibration?

It's certainly a noticeable amount for most when used in steel - or even graphite for those with more severe pain issues. It's just not nearly as much as graphite when used in a steel shaft. There are people for which it's been enough to eliminate the pain and some that it wasn't enough.

Ive used both and recently gone back to 76 gram Miyazaki Jinsoku graphite (after playing a few rounds with my older 59gram Miyazaki C.kua's) from 130gm Parallel KBS C-Tapers. Fatigue at the end of the round is SOOOO much better. Properly selected and fitted/assembled graphite offers a greater range of fitting options than steel due to the huge range of manufacturing processes available to graphite shaft designers.

I chose to go contstant lower torque shafts at 3 degrees myself, but the Recoil range has a myriad of options for flight, variable/constant torque and weight. The Recoils also feel fantastic.

Try both, if you can borrow a set and play a round, you'll notice the difference.

Stuart, your story reminds me of my early days in the game with the driver. Those 45"+ clubs with their UL graphite at "firm flex" couldn't be the problem, it must be the guy swinging it.

My CB Pro Tungsten irons have parallel tip (0.370") hosel. I really like the clubheads, but would like to shift to graphite. Do any manufacturers offer AWT-type graphite shafts for parallel tip irons?

If not, could I jockey an AWT-equivalent mix together by mixing weights within a shaft model. Example from UST Mamiya...

Possible choices:

760 ES F3 70 gram in 4-6i / 760 ES F3 83 gram in 7i-PW; or...760 ES F3 83 grams in 4-6i / 760 ES F4 87 gram (softstepped) in 7i-PWF3 = Regular / F4 = Stiff

And, what about getting Recoil 95 shafts (90-96 Gr. in F3 Regular and installing in 0.370" with 0.355" shims? How well do shims work on graphite shafts?

Shims work fine with graphite.

Only other ascending weight graphite shaft was (sorry, yes that is past tense), the steelfiber AMI player spec shafts. They don't make them any more (I think because they were pretty pricey), might be possible to track down a set.
