New Scotty Cameron Bachelor Gift

Hi all! I am purchasing a new Scotty for my brother as a wedding/bachelor party gift and am wanting some advice. I would like for him to have a nice grip as well. I have a Scotty myself and I am a fan of the Scotty grips but I think he would be into something a bit more modern like the chunkier Super Strokes or something along those lines. Which grip do y’all suggest for the 2020 Scotty Newport 2? Suggest the factory grip? Or upgrade to something else?

All personal preference my man. Just get him the Scotty and he can re-grip later is he so chooses.

What does he putt now? What grip does that have on it? 

 

But yes, all preference. Get him the putter and tell him you'll buy him the grip of his choice. Also, I'll send you my contact info for my friends so you can tell them how to gift appropriately.

Hahaha thanks for the advice. He's never had anything nice and has always used hand me down clubs. His current putter is a cheapo Ping with a factory thin grip.

Does he like the feel of the factory grip? Are his wrist overly active in his putting stroke?

I wouldn't say he dislikes the feel.... But not overly confident with the feel. And yes his wrists are a bit overly active in his stroke.

I know a lot of people like a thicker grip to quiet the wrists a little. Best bet is to just have him pick out what he wants though (maybe I am just super picky about putters and set up).

I agree. I just didn't know if there were any grips that people would swear by before giving him the putter. Thanks for all of the advice!

I'd let him pick the putter and grip he wants especially if you're buying him a Scotty.

Agreed!  You never know, he may actually like the stock SC grip.

Great gift idea. Take him to go get the putter and let him pick what he likes best. The new Cameron’s are great but putters are highly personal.

pay for a fitting while your there. might as well.

You could send to the custom shop eventually for a SC "matador" or there are plenty for resale you could buy and have someone install locally.

The stock Pistolini Plus grip has a nice weighty feel and shape.  I went with 2 extra layers of tape under the grip for my special order.  Also, asked for 10 grams heavier head "Circle H option".  All were done at factory with no upcharge.  Plan for 3-4 weeks wait for this kind of order.

I'm about to place a custom order myself for the heavier head and Pistolero Plus grip.  Good to know the lead time!
