7i has a chip on the sole.. still playable?

I recently had a tough lie where I hit a chippy 7i out from some trouble. Unfortunately, I did NOT see the huge rock the size of my fist underneath the leaves right in front of where the ball is (where a divot should be after a good shot). I checked my club and the sole has a pretty big chip/blemish on it, but I'm not quite sure what it means as far as being able to still use it.

 

From just looking at it, I don't really see why it would affect anything aside from aesthetics and MAYBE losing a gram of weight.

 

Was curious if anyone here thought it would need to be replaced or repaired.

uuuhhhhhhh.......  nope!  zero impact.  Unless you are so anal that having a slight scratch on your club creates a psychological issue.

Lots of info on using a small hammer and slowly working the metal to get rid of most of that.  It's merely a scratch.

You can do what these have mentioned if it really bothers you or you can play it and it'll dissipate in time whereby you'll eventually forget about it.

Hammer the face flat then file it till it’s back in shape. No effect at all.

I have a 5 iron exactly like yours. Have used like that for 2 seasons with no issues that I could determine. I did not file or anything because I was afraid to mess with the sole or leading edge and mess with the turf interaction so I left it be.

I had worse than that on the sole of my 9 iron. Took it to a golf galaxy and the sanded it smooth. Didn't even take 2 minutes.
