Please take a look at this wedge

So my buddy purchased Maverik pros off offer up. Condition was like new, looked like they were hit a couple times. All look good except for the wedge. Now he won’t respond back to my buddy about why it looks weird. Please let me know if you have seen this or know what this is

It looks like peeling chrome or coating of some kind

Looks similar to the delaminating issue Ping irons had several years ago.

Can't be certain without being able to feel it, but it definitely seems like the chrome coating is starting to delaminate. It looks like it's bubbling up due to moisture getting between the coating and the metal.

 

The same thing happened to my friend's car recently and although his car isn't painted chrome it had the same sort of bubbling look to it.

Given Callaways reputation I would say they would replace without hesitation.

They should, but it might get a bit hairy considering your buddy isn't the original owner. They might be better off seeing if offer up can help them get a refund since the seller seems to be non-responsive. I'm guessing he/she knew about the issue before they sold it and now feels like they got away with one.

Yes and no. The chrome will probably start to flake off pretty soon, and then you'll be left with a half chrome half raw metal sole which could have a small effect especially if used for hitting chip shots. Also, the metal underneath will probably start to rust if it hasn't already since the protective chrome layer is no longer there.

Without a doubt that is clearly a manufacturing defect. Callaway should replace that club without question. It shouldn't matter if you're not the original owner.

Callaway should be able to replace it.  Worth a try at least.  In my dealings with them, their CS is good on making the customer happy and correcting any issues.  It doesnt seem like the club(s) are mistreated, so user error would be out.

I'd be concerned about that as well

He originally said he purchased at golf galaxy. But I believe my buddy is asking for proof of purchase. He is going to reach out to callaway and see what they say. I had an issue with my Taylormade sim 3 wood and they are sending me a sim 2 . Customer service is great

Chrome didn't adhere properly during the plating process. Factory defect.
